Anyone know of a basic repair place or man that they'd recommend? We've got a dodgy aerial (coaxial?) port on the back of a tv which keeps flicking the picture off at inopportune times. It's particularly great at playing up when there's a programme you want watch is on.
It's worth mentioning that this an ancient brick of a large tv, so moving it much away from central Brixton will be a toil for us carless types.
It's a much loved brick of tv mind, a nigh on 30 year old box made out of purest heft. It's been our mission to see how long this worthy Panasonic can keep on going for in these days of planned obsolesence, and it'd be a shame to pension it off because of a loose connection.
Help up repair our freakish tv!

New Park Road? Not sure if they do it or not, I always used the one on Brixton Hill but he's gone now

Without trying to sound ungrateful, do you know many backs I'd break trying to get this thing down to New Pk Road? It's a shame that so many of the repair shops closer have shut down in recent years - it's just so cheap to buy new I guess.
And, before you start, aren't you the one that wants to go to the Clapham fireworks because the bus from Brixton Hill stops closer to there than to Brockwell...
:p :D
Cheers though!

You sure it's just the port and nothing else?
If that's all it is, surely you could take the back off yourself and sort it, no?

Quite tempted to do that, but my entire lack of electrical experience and kit, coupled with the dangerous CRT, makes me hesitant.
Basically it's a loose connection that flicks the picture off. We've got round that for ages by twisting the port and reconnecting, but now the port's critically loose after much twistage. I suspect it won't be tough to rectify, but it's a daunting enough task to a repair bluffer like me.

Try asking in the electrical shop in Herne Hill, they will prob be able to put you in touch with someone.
If that doesn't work there's an old-style TV rental shop on Clapham Park Road, opposite the entrance to Sainsburys as you come towards Clapham Common from Acre Lane direction. No idea what it's called I'm afraid...

TV sets (especially older, larger ones) retain a charge at voltages that can very easily kill you for quite some time after being switched off and unplugged from the mains.
If you don't know what you're doing, leave it alone.
I've been witness to someone stuffing their hand into the back of an (unplugged) TV. They didn't die - they were left partially paralysed. :(

Jesus!
Isn't there a repair shop on Brixton Hill, opposite Curry Purgatory?
Just discharge the HT Lead (on the suction cup) with a screwdriver :) No worries then.
