Just have to crow about a cool place I've happened upon near work. It's called Life, and is, I guess, about number 8 Old Street, near Barbican tube.
It's a sushi restaurant/sake bar/Japanese weird shit shop place, and they don't seem to be advertising themselves much at all.
I'm no expert on sushi, but this was the best I've ever had. It seems a bit sacreligious to eat anything else later the same day! It's obviously fresh made, and I'm guessing they have a real accredited Japanese sushi chef there. They have quite pricey-seeming set menus for £40+ per head, but a light dinner can be had from £15 a head upwards buying separate bits (that was including edamame, miso and green tea).
A variety of sake and sake cocktails is available downstairs, past the shop selling clothes, jewellery and random Japanese toy things (good for presents for the too-cool person in your life).
If you like your sushi and your sake, do drop by this place. They've clearly put a lot of effort in and I think they're worth spreading the word about.
