The annual London Open House weekend is nearly upon us.

I've never taken advantage and wondered what buildings are worth visiting?

No idea, but if I were in London I'd certainly go to something. I used to help out on the 'open house'/heritage open weekends in Hull, and they were always a good occasion.

There are loads of great buildings worth a visit. The problem is that the most popular ones often have huge queues or are bookings only.

The most impressive building I've visited is the Hindu temple in Neasden.

You can always go to the Neasden temple though, we went in one Christmas because we were bored and it seemed like a good thing to do. It was great.

I may think about going to see some examples of Brutalism.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, just off Whitehall, is spectacular.

It's the same weekend as the Thames Festival. So much to do in one weekend.

The queues can get annoying, unless you turn up early.

I saw Peckham House http://www.peckhamhouse.com/index.php last year, cos its got a sliding roof over the living room and it was just down the road. :p (oh and a tango studio cos every home needs one of those).

I don't know what to visit this year, cos you have to pay to download the guides.

...as is it's sister building Lancaster House which is a main Government Hospitality venue - well worth seeing for the main room alone!!

If it's open again this year, the Mason's Hall was a surprise hit with us last year.

ah, i've cheated and am now volunteering at one of the sites in Brixton, so I get a free pamphlet and a sticker enabling me to queue jump at other Open Houses...

now just need to decide what to see. That Masonic Lodge thing's meant to be quite grand isn't it? but its more likely to be the tree house. What's the name of the old anatomical hall in W1?
