View Full Version : Reasons not to live in the unlikely parts of London
No.1 Wood Green: the shopping centre's horrible, pubs consist of a Goose and a Weatherspoons, Hollis lives there....
:p
being close to hollis is surely a positive thing:confused:
Don't worry.. I am happy in my splendid isolation up here.

You're close (ish) to him.... do you feel his positivity?
The house next door's going if anyone's that interested.. NO loud music, okay? (or TVs).

Can I squat it?
We consider living next to Hollis a great bonus.
We never actually see him, mind. That might be part of the charm.
Wood Green Shopping City was never as good once Pearsons shut down, but it still has the hippy food stall in the market. :D

We're closer.
When I go up to Wood Green Central Library, I often stand outside in the Free Speech Zone and bask in the glory.
Can people go dowsing in Wood Green for the energy of Hollis positivity?
PS we saw him once in Wilkinsons. He was buying some toothpaste. We were in there after low energy lightbulbs. It was a monumental event.

Did you just do a knowing nod at him as you were overcome by his presence?

First place I stayed in London and I almost gave up on the first day.
I'm from the counry see and it was just too much of a culture shock. Lucky then that I managed to ease my way in to city living by finding a place in Ealing.

For horrible shopping centres Edmonton must be a contender, all the shops are 99p stores or if you're lucky it may be a £1 shop. And all the people look ill.

I like Edmonton. The shopping centre is rather run down but the £1 shops are good. Once you move to somewhere without them, you miss them...
Edmonton stinks. There is no polite way of saying it. The place smells.

True, one if the main reasons I'm moving to where I'm going to is there's a great pound shop. They are replacing the shopping centre at Edmonton soon anyway, and where else do you get riots at Ikea?

Edmonton covers a fair distance -which bit?- angel Edmonton, Edmonton Green, Lower Edmonton....
Dalston- utter shit pile.
Especially on market days. Its filthy.

But there are two cheap cinemas and the wetherspoons isn't full of scummy wankers.
It's gone downhill since the wood green tandoori closed though. Used to get awesome food there, but now they've moved to liverpool :(

Just checking to see what I could find out about what was causing the problem and indeed Campaign Against London Waste Emissions were looking into the Stinky (Upper?) Edmonton problem as was the local MP.
DEFRA was asked to investigate recycling plants and eco-centres emitting noxious smells after local complaints.

No. Dalston would be a seperate place. Its why I posted seperately.

I do remember some stuff about this last year. It might be near Angel Edmonton which kind of leans out into the industrial estate world of the River Lee.
Otherwise bits of Edmonton are quite plesant. Keats came from there as did Chas and Dave....:D
Angel Edmonton? Now things are getting silly.

North Circular travels along Angel Road.... if I remember right.

Can't possibly be. I saw my first Kingfisher there ( not the beer!)

If you are skint, it's probably the best place to shop in London. Yes, it looks grim, but it has everything. I cycle there from Tottenham, it's cycle path pretty much 90% of the way. The indoor market is excellent, great selection of cheap fruit and veg and also ethnic food supermarkets.
Re. Edmonton smelling, according to our local paper, its the recycling plant, you can see it if you drive on the North Circular past Edmonton Ikea. Having travelled right past it, I agree. It stinks lots.
It'd be quite cool to able say that somewhere literally stinks
As I haved sniffed the offending Ronk Du Edmonton myself, I do not feel it wopuld be honest for me to pass the observatuion on with the first hand convictiobn it deserves, eg " What a fucking hole, the fuckin place REALLY stinks guy!!!"
Edited to add; East Ham has got to be shit-pit No 1 in my book, with Thamesmead kissing its arse when it slows for corners

Canvey Island smells funny when the wind carries over the combined pong of the Corringham oil refinery and landfill site.

Don't get carried away. Let's take a decade at a time;)
Woolwich is a fuuny place. It is a proper town and could be a great place, but it seems to be full of people who are still catching up evolving to homo sapiens and need a bit more time to get there.

Nah - that'd be here:

That I've been to, anyway.

Trouble is, the laggard members of an old species don't evolve into the new one.
We can only wait, patiently, for them to die out :(
