Best places to be at the Nottinghill Carnival?

I'm spending a fair amount of time in London at the moment through work, and I've managed to wangle it so i'm there over the weekend.

I go tomorrow, can anybody recommend some good places to go? I've never been before, would like to see a bit of it, but just has happy sitting about getting pissed in a decent boozer.

Away from the constant flow of gangsta wannabes forcibly steaming their way through the crowds like trains, scaring the shit out of people, displacing you into some sweaty bloke's arse and who then stare insolently at you if you dare to challenge them and threaten to stab you.

And away from the half wit parents who bring new borns and toddlers in double buggies- to narrow streets with hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people on them.

if i go, which is sporadically to say the least, i get a tube to Kensal Rise, walk through the fairly empty streets at that end, pitch up at Aba Shanti with a carrier bag of beer, stay there till the end and flee home the same way.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is pretty much my plan as well, only I go via queens park and dont take a bag of beer.:)
