Tube workers vote for strike action

Tube staff have voted in favour of strike action proposed by three transport unions over a jobs and conditions row.

The RMT Union and Transport Salaried Staffs' Association and Unite held ballots over job losses faced by staff employed by maintenance firm Metronet.

Metronet, which is responsible for the upkeep of nine Tube lines, went into administration in July.

Its administrators have until Wednesday for assuring workers' jobs, RMT said.

If the talks fail the unions will declare a date for strike action on Thursday.

So the administrators should rush their decision because of a deadline the RMT wants, regardless?

I'm all for them striking if it's clear there will be job losses but the administrators need to work out how the company will emerge from administration and meet its contractural obligations. It may well be they're trying to move workers to a privately-run entity, but the RMT has no idea that's the case at the moment and I doubt the administrators do either as the PPP contracts are complex.
