My brother hates it. I don't actually mind it.

Maybe I'm biased and desperate for this thing to appear. As it will be positioned on my road.

I feel that Finchley deserves the recognition, as it was all those years ago, folded away, subtley within all of those genius Goon scripts.

I believe that Mr Milligan deserves so much too.

So. What do you guys think of the statue?

I think it's rather cute. Spike probably wouldn't have approved, but he didn't approve of much, I gather!

I often walk past the poster about it near Finchley Central tube.

I like the idea of Spike on a bench but the bench itself looks over done, too much going on and too much detail.

Maybe it was done like that to reflect his manic depression.

Design's a bit shite tbh, might look better full size though - hard to tell.

Brockley/Catford/Lewisham and environs would be a more fitting location ?

His formative years ( and early work ) constantly references SE London - eg Riseldene road in Honor oak park.

I like the bench. I'd sit and have a chat.

One of the most overrated comedians ever IMHO. Waste of money.

But the bench idea is hackneyed and derivative (http://images.google.com/images?q=bench+statue).

And so, whatever you think of Mr Milligan's loony and original work, it misrepresents him.

My favourite Milligan quote is that he wanted to be buried in a washing machine.

To confuse the archaeologists.

His wish was not honoured by his heirs :(

A bronze washing machine in Finchley - that'd do it :)

the story of his cameo in The Life of Brian sums him up really, so no - i dont think a statue / sculpture / bench would do him justice.

I remember Spike getting involved to save that tree in Hyde park with carved fairies on it. Always thought an impish Spike on the top would be a nice touch.

That bench is hideous :(
