This was a nice day out last year - may well have to pop over again, possibly followed by some Mela action.

Not sure how seriously they take the competition aspect - I reckon at least a few urbanites could cook as well- but it's a great excuse to eat some jerk and enjoy the sunshine.

What beeboo said!

I'm really, really hoping Mr Doubles is going to be there and show everyone else how it's done!

Man! just thinking about this is making me hungry! :D

Was thinking of going along

but how does this work - do they sell small tasters or is it only full portions as I'd love to try a bit of everything - tapas style

But if you have to buy a meal how the hell do you decide who to buy from

Nah, you just buy the jerk as usual, from many of the same stands that you see around the festival circuit. If you ask nicely some folks may give you a little taster, but because the chicken's cooked on bone, it's not easy to do smaller samples.

Just go around and see which smells and looks best to you. And eat muchly...

hmm or go with a few people and each buy one from a different vendor

I just want to know if/how they can be different and what makes one jerk better than another so feel the need to sample

and drink beer

I wouldn't worry too much - ime they're not always that different from many of the stands. Partly, I suspect because they lack enough refrigeration to marinade the meat for as long as they'd like perfectly - at least 24-48 hours I reckon for prime jerk.

That said there was some great jerk pork at the Country Show this year, with a genuinely unusual hint of hoi sin.

Get yourself some coconut water, some sugar cane and just enjoy the whole atmosphere. Not sure about the salsa if I'm honest - the Steel drums last years seemed to work really well.
