Hello my name is Randell and I have a question for those that will hear.
I am an accomplished musician here in th U.S. playing in several rock bands as a frontman for years, now I play Native American flute professionally. My heart and spirit is guiding me to depart from here and live in England. Problem is, I know nothing about living there or how much rent is if I can find a roomy situation until I can get on my feet. So many questions... What type of visa do I need ? What type of music is being played and popular,Not even sure how well my music will be received. What is the currency exchange versus the dollar ? How is the weather and the changing seasons ? Would the Britts welcome a Cherokee banana split LOL. My departure date is March 11th 2008 I am not even sure what part of England is the best for me I'Ve been a D.J. for over 15 years and have waitered, also done voice over acting but the music is the steel in my veins. I only KNOW This is not some fantasy, but a reality. I know on my fathers side I am English, Welsh, Nordic And Cherokee I am researching this now. If anyone can help please respond.

Thanks So Much

The natives might be more impressed if you use paragraphs and its not a mass of red text... Also more five seconds research on the Internet might be useful...

Thing is, cost of living/rent/availability of jobs etc entirely depends on where you are looking in the UK

England is probably not as small as you think.

Not true, I saw a weatherman standing next to it this morning, it was smaller than him.

London at least is an expensive place to live in, Knightsblood. A Canadian friend of mine is finding his feet here and his main complaints are (a) rents are expensive, (b) he finds English women difficult to chat up, (c) everyone talks loudly and constantly on their mobile phones, which does his head in, and (d) getting work permits and sorting out tax codes etc is a hassle - "You get screwed at every turn!" he says.

But on the plus side he finds it exciting here and there is plenty of work for him (he can do plastering and painting).

You sound like a bit of a wanker tbh, and thats not a fantasy. That's a reality.

Still - London is a very cosmopolitan place, you'll no doubt find your niche.

Problem is, the "content of the character" bit could be researched in five minutes with this thing called "Google". Oh, and try dropping the hippy bollocks. Unless you stay in a posh part of time, Americans spouting crud about their destiny doesn't go down too well.

Used to be a time when we welcomed Yanks with open arms, but since the much stronger £ they're all dirt poor... :D

in the last thread his father was only english, welsh, and nordic. his father has gained a heritage since the last post.

what does nordic mean btw? does that mean you have scandinavian or norwegian ancestry but would rather dress it up by making it sound like you've got viking blood, or have you actually traced your ancestry all the way back?

Tbh you sound like some naive college kid who's got everything he 'knows' about Britain from watching Ealing Comedy films - and therefore thinks we all walk around in fawn raincoats and bowler hats, playing cricket on the village green, hunting to hounds and saying things like 'spiffing' and 'I say!'

If you're that interesting in moving to britain, why not come over for a holiday beforehand, travel around the country a bit and see whether it would suit you?

Not on a bulletin board, matey.

If the way you write stops people from reading what you've written, you've got a problem.

I am More Cherokee in my blood and in my heart than any of my other Heritage combined. In our Native way we are taught there is no separation between black, white, red, yellow or any other races. It does not matter if you are Cherokee, Apache, Comanche, Arapaho,Lakota, Hopi,Dine, or Choctaw. In our belief it is "ONE PEOPLE ONE TRIBE " It does not matter if you are English,Scott,Welsh,German,Polish,Chinese,Russian,Japanese or any other Race. It is still "ONE PEOPLE ONE TRIBE " For those the ACTUALLY were kind enough to give me insight and some information I needed, I thank you and Blessings. But for the others that choose to make a joke of it and put me down. What the hell is wrong with you! Have you not had dreams in your life to better yourself to make your way in this world and be all you can for your family? Have you completely forgotten what it was like to have a dream, a goal for your life?
Or have you just given up and decided to remain still in the little postage stamp world you have created for yourselves.
As for my writings. I am a published author and was give the Editors Choice Award for my poetry in the "Society Of Literary Poets " I have three cds of my music out, www.myspace.com/beartribe and have performed as a lead singer in several Rock bands, and opened up for quite a few headlining acts. Molly Hatchett, White Lion, Black and Blue, and the Romantics just to name a few.And whether you believe it or not! All men have a Destiny that is their own to find and fulfill. If this were not so, how about looking into the archives of your very own history, there you will find men of Destiny that forged a way of life for you to be at your posh homes sitting on your tail on the internet putting down a fellow brother for fulfilling his dreams ! How sad it is you can not be more uplifting and caring.
I have always been taught that Britts were very kind, loving, and honorable.
Please don't prove me wrong...

TBH if come here next March London is going to toy with you for a few days, then spit you back out... On thing Londoners can't abide is know-it-all-celestial-bollocks-spouting-new-age-Americans. Which is what you come across as. And as I said, the $ is worthless now so you won't have that advantage anymore...

I've seen many people come to London acting as you seem to, thinking that they because they "made-it" at home they will make it here. Sorry, doesn't work that way here. We want substance, not some American bullshit-substitute.

I'd really suggest you come here for a holiday. There really isn't a mainstream market for your music here (but you would need to come here to find out), so you'll need a Visa to be a waiter or barman. (But that works differently here as well. Don't expect good tips unless you actually any good at it).

Also try this thing called Google. It helps...

Oh, and a MySpace homepage just screams "AMATEUR"...

The truth is the UK has immigration laws and issues just like any other nation. You can't just move here because you want to just like a Brit can't move to the USA.

When you land here, your passport will be stamped with a tourist stamp that says 'Ineliglble for employment' which means you are welcome to come see the sights but if get a job, including performing music, you are breaking the law.

As an american, to get a work visa you need to have one of the following:
1) Be married to or a close relative of a UK citizen
2) Be filthy rich to an extent that you will not be burden on UKsociety (think Madonna)
3) Have skillset desierable to the UK. Do you have a serious degree from a university? Do you have many years experience in the field of this degree? Are you published? If you are you could possibly qualify for a HSMP (look it up).

If you don't qualify for the above then you ain't going to get a work permit in the UK. Its as simple as that.

I still get the impression that our would-be Brit is under the impression that Yurop is well behind the US in terms of border controls, passports, visas and all the other malarkey of modern emigration.

I imagine it'll come as quite a shock to him when he's bent over and rubber-gloved by some seventeen-stone customs meathead at Heathrow. He'll have thought he'd left all that behind when he quit the midwest...

How far back does British parentage allow you access to the UK?

Parent? Grandparent? Great- Grandparent?

What are the rules?

Spend some time on Scottish boards - this guy is pale & aenemic compared to some of the wannabee Bravehearts who pitch-up with their impassioned declarations of underlying Scottishness & warrior/celtic anticedence & their desire to return to the hills & heather.

grandparent for an ancestory visa - which means you can stay for four years, at which point you can get right of abode and then perm residency and eventually citizenship. until about 15yrs ago if your father or paternal granfather were british you got automatic citizenship (you, and they, had to be 'legitimate'). that was a bit sexist though :).

Ignore the wankers mate. Come to the UK, embrace your destiny and live the dream. Seize the day while you're about it, and grasp the nettle too.

Seriously, living in London is a stroll in the park compared to living anywhere in the USA, and the chicks will dig your accent.
