Bugger, away for the weekend, it looks ace, you are going to be mr-superstar-dj with this:
playing from a sound system on the outside decking area
and you must hold your arms aloft like fatboy slim, or something
Have fun
:)

and you must hold your arms aloft like fatboy slim, or something
I've already paid for a team of lithe young lads to hang around on the decking admiring my DJing skills while chopping me fat lines of gak and shaking pina coladas. Then we're all going for a jacuzzi together at Chariots Roman Spa
Ohh, I'm back in Brixton 'till next monday.
Anyone else had enough of Alabama bloody 3 whoring themselves around Brixton & the surrounding area all the bloody time?
Anyway, it's in the diary. :)

nope. They're probably Brixton's best loved band, always lend their support to things like this, are well known local characters and always do a good show.

I know - it's like they're the sponsored voice of Brixton or something. Anyway, I really like them since they got that remarkable woman to sing with them so I'll probably be there.

*sulks*That's usually because you're the last to confirm!
Truth is I have to do the press releases weeks before the event and so it's usually a case of cut and pasting what was in the last one.

*rubs blagsta's name off DJ list.
Nah, it's cool, I'm only messing :)

I don't know, but it's not mentioned on their MySpace site. They are apparently playing at a festival in Bedford on the same day.
Sounds excellent! As soon as i heard Blagsta was doing a goth set, I stuck the whole thing straight in the diary and booked the tickets to south of the river.
...What, he isn't?

Alabama 3 aren't playing at this, or djing, and weren't ever booked to play it. Don't know why someone put them on the flyer. They're on at The Rhythym Festival in Bedford on Sunday. :)

twas the same last year.. I was hoping that they would really get it organised for thgis year.. was away in Vancouver last year and had to get up at silly o'clock to call people back here .. eventually gave up on it.. the idea was to bring together all different genre's of music.. have the street lined with stalls etc.. then it was hijacked by 2 or 3 local 'wannabe's' and for me it killed the whole idea behind it.. Its meant to be a celebration of Brixton .. not a battle to see who can gain the most points with the council.. Hope it goes well... and if it was anything like last year.. the Albert should be rammed.. ( only because the lord saw fit to release a months rain in one hour.. ..)

and so is Brixton.. miss it a lot.. Boro is a shit hole.. but i knew that.. in the process of trying to persuade Greene King that they need a more structured entertainment policy.. and that i am the guy to run it for them.. so hopefully i will be soon travelling the country looking for DJ's and bands to sign contracts selling their soul to corporate bull shit.. hehe!! Albert seems to be doing well though.. thats good news..
my major issue is the flashing of the lights at last orders, instead of calling it like a normal pub.

not the same as me riding the bike in and polluting everyone with the fumes to get rid.. you see these traditional methods are now leaving us.. making way for modern technology such as flashing lights

*goes back to TFL to try and find way across river*
Their site is a joke and there'll be quite a few people seriously miffed that Alabama3 aren't playing.
Here's an easy way to work out the route to the Albert - just type in where you are:

Still, unlike another London festival this weekend, at least I'm allowed to look at it.

Cheers for that...
We've got to plan an optima route taking in a new brew pub in Herne Hill, and hopefully stopping off at the Doric Arch on the way home. Priorities, like :D

Hehe every one of the suggested routes is completely different! considering that we is on your victoria line, their various workarounds are quite funny. :D
Many different buses, or Victoria from Seven Sisters to Victoria then many different buses, or strange things involving the bakerloo line...
I think we'll get the 45 from kings cross. They don't mention doing that. :D
Just taken a walk along Coldharbour Lane. There's an almighty old school DIY sound system set up - it looks well cool.
Inevitably, there's 'nuff cops about too.

Unless the Albert comes up with a king size PA, I reckon we'll be Djing inside because the reggae soundsystem next to the pub is Empire State-tastic.

If I evacuated my work with a hoax, I'd have to take a cab to Camden and carry on 'working' there. And I'd have to wear a special tabard.

Maybe it's Red Records blasting out some Gangsta Rap with shooting in it :D
I hope it is all innocent though
Well traffic is still coming up the Hill
There's not enough fuss for it to be guns, I reckon. Nobody seems to be hurt anyway, and there's been no ambulance. Just some boistrousness, I think.

There was a shooting, I'm afraid. No one hurt. Both yours and my streets are cordoned off. I could have been cycling by at that time if I hadn't been wasting time at work posting crap on here. Lots of sirens going on. Hope it hasn't escalated:(

Jesus Christ. Not another one.
No escalation yet. Just six shots and Brixton high spirits. Check out the soundsystems. Nuff police. Imagine that some communities don't live in permanent fear of youths with firearms! I'm pretty sure it's not their fault, though. I'm sure I saw Society running away down the street with its head under a hood. It's a chilly night.
The funny thing about the Splash itself was that there seemed to be substantially fewer people around than on a normal Sunday in Brixton. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe they knew something.
Errr...were you at the same Brixton Splash I was at?
Seemed like hundreds of people were there when I was, at about 4 this afternoon (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1088/1019487206_c55978f9b1.jpg?v=1186333320)....

there were really fat crowds around two of the speaker stacks. Weirdly, both sound systems had no crowds round each of their other speaker stacks. It was like everyone had to be on the left side of the mix or something.
there was at least one person with the worst sunburn I've seen in this country. we did try and get the police to take them away, but they said they couldn't nick white people for being dumb in the sun - go figure?
I have seen stranger local festivals. But only because I went to the Haringey Green Fair. This one seemed to be being enjoyed by all, and felt like it was actually a festival belonging to the people there.
Oh, and I got to dance like an idiot in the Albert. Spirit of LDRudeboy, I think :D :D
Blimey. The Albert rocked like fuck tonight!
Me and Dub ended up putting a near*four hour* back to back DJ set. :D

I had a great day and it was a top atmosphere most of the day. I think the sun meant people were getting a little more easily frazzled in places but generally everyone was very chilled :)

Very good crowds around by the Ritzy and Windrush Sqiuare area for the live music.
The police really need to sort out the parking on Railton Road, can't have parking on both sides with the busses coming through. People were stuck for 45 mins plus.
Word is that it was some halfwit firing off bullets into the air.
Right, that makes sense. Fools. At least it was the air and not some poor sod's chest.

Of course we can't be trusted after dark in London though can we.
Rolled up about 10pm I think, after being at the Shoreditch Festival all day.
I got my wires crossed & thought this went on until 2am.I think we finished around 2am in the end, although the bar stopped a bit before that. Seeing as we'd started at 5pm I was fucking knackered, and my ears are still ringing from the beefier PA they brought in.
The Albert was really busy all day while the Dogstar apparently had just three people in it around 11!
Had a brilliant time! :D Feeling rather rough now though. I'd have loved to stay at The Albert longer, but it was a struggle enough getting up as it was. If I'd stayed later, I'd wouldn't have made it into work.
Nice to meet nipsla and memespring. :)
I woke up still pissed. :o Enough so that I wouldn't even consider cycling in today. Whoops. Luckily it's not too busy at work.
Fab day though. And it was great to see a few people I haven't seen for aaaages, like Mrs M and Blagsta etc.

Yeah, I meant the actual streetparty bit. I was in the Albert until way after 12, but then really had to go home!
I think I must have got me wires crossed cos your email bulletin said until 2- it must have meant the pub, not the streetparty! So it's your fault!
Would like to have gone to Brixton yesterday but the level of Guinness consumed on Friday and Saturday prevented this from happening :(

I was in the Dogstar on Saturday night and it was pretty empty then. Nice fit out (I haven't been in for a few years) and friendly staff but shit DJ.It looks loads better inside, but the security (full airport-style body frisk down) isn't exactly welcoming and there are some 'issues' that really need sorting out in there.

I'd bet there was still a bloody queue at the bar at the Dogstar.... it's one of the least efficient bars I've ever seen. Unlike the good old Albert.
The Albert had run out of lager by the time I left last night (roughly 9.30pm)

twas the same last year.. the problem is that there are a couple of people there who want what they want and are not really to listen to others input.. its the 'i know best syndrome..' i gave up on it all last years in the end.. after some sterling work by certain people the self nominated chairperson took all the credit.... as others grafted their asses off the certain person walked around like a headless chicken.. its only down to the genuine people in brixton to keep events such as this moving forward.. and by looking at the pictures posted it seems to have been a very popular day.. mind you, you didnt get the downpour this year that was very beneficial to The Albert last year..
It was very enthusiastic. But despite the photos of the crowds at the top end of CHL it was pretty deserted at the sound systems on Atlantic and on CHL by the Satay bar. Maybe it picked up after 4. The stage on the square was good too. They'd have done better spread less thin, that's all.
It was great. I spent an whole hour there before baby afternoon nap time, dammit. I was just saying.
And I'd have preferred not to have the Trident leaflet through my door this morning but wouldn't we all?
It definitely picked up after 4.
