My postman has started leaving undelivered parcels (mine) on the front door step, tucked under the edge of the doormat. Anyone who may have wondered up to the door over the last few weeks could have walked off with any number of ebayings I've had left there by the postman, including a new mobile phone. I know the sorting office in Herne Hill has now gone, but just dumping parcels when they can't deliver them seems flippin risky. Has anyone else been having this problem in the shakespeare rd area?

Complain to your delivery office. The Postie is not allowed to do this and will be disclipined for doing so. (Probably just told not to do it in fact!)

The postman who does Tudor Close on Brixton Hill does that too. I just assumed there was a general air of trust around Brixton :P

Say you didn't receive the package and don't pay :)

We ask our postie to do this. He makes it invisible, tucks it away carefully.

I know other people elsewhere in the country who have their posties do the same thing.

Nae worries.

Call me cynical but I reckon your parcels are safer on your doorstep than they are in the sorting office :p

when i lived in south woodford in a small but open plan estate block the post fella would do this, which was a bit annoying but everyone looked out for each other. i live on shakespeare road and we even get people going down our bins to see if there's anything interesting in there, so i doubt that it would last long. fortunately they aways seem to leave cards, leaving me the simple option of trekking to camberwell during working hours to pick up crap.

Yep - my parcels are frequently left under the doormat, but not remotely hidden. I live in the same area as you. Haven't had a problem so far with stuff being nicked, but it's only a matter of time.

Thinking about it though, it's usually other delivery companies that do this, not Royal Mail.

We always had an agreement with our postie that he would leave parcels with our neighbour. I often have delivery companies actually write a note on the parcel asking him to do this.

For some reason he has stopped doing this now and just takes them back to the depot. This has only happened since I complained when he left us a "sorry we missed you" card whilst I was at home, opened the door to ask him why he hadn't knocked and it turned out, it was because he never brought the parcel in the first place...

They claim it is no longer allowed to leave parcels with neighbours etc... yet on their own "sorry we missed you" cards there is a section to tick if they've left it with a neighbour.

I rarely see the postie - perhaps I'll leave a big notice for him on my front door in huge red letters...

My postie leaves me records in a mutually agreed place....

Before you complain why not have a chat and see if you can agree a good location - saves you toodling up to the post office to collect it....
