I have a birthday coming up with a 0 in it and was thinking about having a party. Unfortunately my flat is too small and currently smells of fish () so is unsuitable for the occasion. Anywhere got any decent suggestions for venues to hire in the Brixton area? It would probably be a Saturday if that makes any difference.

Ta :)

Upstairs (top floor) at the dogstar is nice, if a bit poncy.

Hadn't thought of the Dogstar ta :) Only problem is that their drinks are fucking extortionate. Went in for lunch at El Panzon and it was only just short of £8 for a glass of wine and pint of guiness

How many people? Red Gate Studios on Coldharbour Lane had ridiculously cheap drinks but might need a few to fill it out

How about the arch that the Serious Business vs Electric Avenue party was in recently?

Totally depends on what sort of party you want to throw :)

Don't know either Red Gate Studios or the arch - what are they like?. It doesn't have to be anywhere too smart. Just somewhere where the drinks aren't too expensive and we can play some tunes. Probably be looking at between 30 and 50 people. Ideally not too far from the tube as some people will be coming from Norf London  :)

Don't know if it's too far from Brixton, but you could try the Synergy Centre - a non-profit community space in Camberwell. We do private parties for people from a wide variety of communities, you can bring your own beer or we can run a small bar, has an in house PA and decks. For photos of the spaces check www.thesynergycentre.org.

Only 7 mins walk from Oval tube for the North Londoners.

sounds like you want a room above a pub, prince regent on Dulwich rd or that studio space, milkwood rd, hernehill station end does hire outs. Balls to the Dogstar they tried to charge us some stupid amount & we were going to bring loads of people in , doesn't make sense?
