I just got a summons for unpaid council tax (a large figure) that was paid - I have the credit card statement right here - a month ago. Cunts.

You won't have fun - you'll just end up wanting to go postal in Hambrook House.

I can sympathise - I have had a letter from a debt collection agency for a NTL bill I don't owe.

nope, that would be more efficient.

take a load of undertrained people. add one very expensive council tax database that shouldn't make mistakes like this.

add an extremely stressful work situation.

carry on not training.

repeat until fail.

That was actually really painless. Turns out the system can't figure the link between last year's balance - which was £xxx in debt, and this year's balance - which was £xxx in credit. Everything's back to normal. Thank you Lambeth Council Tax Department (never thought I'd say that!)

bluestreak

the system can figure the link. it just requires trained monkeys to be able to make it do so. untrained monkeys make expensive computer systems cry.

i once managed to turn someone in credit on the database into someone who owed in excess of 14K. it took a trained monkey four hours to work out how to fix it. i was well proud.

In a way, it is. It took me 5 seconds to bring up a comprehsensive email list of all the payments made this year, with reference nos. for each :)

They did that to me too. I tried to point out to them that if they could enforce their side of the contract with collecting the money, I should be able to enforce them with respect to actually providing decent schools, housing, library etc. They weren't having it and made me pay by DD.

I would have said "I'll pay you if, and only if, you can perform the very simple task of KEEPING THE FUCKING STREETLAMPS ON THE MAIN ROAD THROUGH BRIXTON LIT. I mean forget the sidestreet I live on, I've come to accept that I must run the gauntlet of semi-darkness to reach my front door, BUT THIS IS THE MAIN STREET IN YOUR BOROUGH, OUTSIDE YOUR FRONT DOOR.

*sigh* I'm sure there's some very good reason they can't manage it. It's probably a contractor over whom they have no control or something

Whilst we're talking about Lambeth and council tax, is it Jan or feb you don't need to pay - cos they spread it over 10 months, rather than 12.

I've feeling it's feb eh, but jan would be well weapon!

Now the only time I sit and count my blessings about Leeds LEA is when faced with realisation I could be living

b) In Bradford

or C) someplace smaller than Bradford.

I've had a similar experience, them demanding money I didn't owe. Court summons, etc. etc.

I'd never take out a direct debit with Lambeth Council! Far too risky. You can't let them be in control. I just pay via internet banking every month.

We just noticed that Lambeth have given us a parking permit with the wrong zone written on it, which means that technically, we can't park outside our house. Although we've been doing so for the past three weeks, without getting a ticket. It's bloody lucky we haven't been fined, actually, as I've been parking in permit only zones in Herne Hill because I was under the impression that our permit was for that area, when in fact it's for Brixton at the moment.

So now one of use has to go to the parking office to sort it out, which will probably take about an hour. And they'll probably insist we take in the permit, which is a bit tricky when you've got wardens circling all the time in our street.

*sigh* And £160 for the privilege.

Are you sure you're not in a dual-zone street? Streets near the borders of zones usually allow both permits.

At least you have a CPZ ... Lambeth, in its wisdom, drew an arbitrary line when they implemented the Brixton E CPZ, which means my street is the first street outside the CPZ, and therefore the closest to all the tube stations with free parking. Can't park in my street, or the one next to it, or the one next to that ... grrrr.

We are, but we're several hundred yards from where it changes.

Hendo braved the parking office today, and actually got it sorted remarkably quickly as they were in a post-Xmas lull. Hurrah!

Actually I had to go to the parking office a few weeks ago for the first time ever (due to not owning a car). And it was an extremely efficient process.

Given how shit the council usually are I was in a slight state of shock.

Still since I've just moved house and they seem to have failed to have logged that so far they're still getting it wrong somewhere. :D
