On Friday my mate Nell is opening a New Deli two doors down from the organic greengrocers at 48 New Park Road, and as if that wasn't exciting enough I'm working behind the counter.we will be selling fresh and cooked meats, artisan cheese, pasta, oils and a whole lot more.we also will be selling fresh coffee(as soon as i work out how to use the coffee machine ),paninis(I already know how to use the toaster ) and when the rest of the kitchen equipment arrives fresh soups, cakes, tarts and pies.
This is not spam, but a whole better class of meat altogether.
It's also been cleared by the Ed.

I considered posting a thread when I got the stiff postcard through the door advertising artichoke hearts as a leading reason for shopping there. But I retreated fearing it would trigger another 300 page gentrification thread.
Will they be grinding coffee to customers specification like Emmi's on Emmanuel Road. There could be a lot of divided loyalties for people on the SW2/SW12 fringes.
I saw a postcard for this at the Railway in Tulse Hill the other night...how can you have "artisan meat"
Isn't an artisan a skilled worker?
twisted will be peeing his pants with excitement :D
The chemist on NPR has been selling old Post Office Bread for years; they have a reasoanble health food section including some great frozen veggie sausages that I've never seen elsewhere but are gourmetlicious.
Artisan seems to be a new foodie word - just means done in a traditional and small scale way.

I guess it should, strictly speaking, be artisanal meat (with artisanal being the adjective) - unless they're selling craftsman cock? :D
"ooh... I'll have one of those craftsman cocks please - would be lovely sliced with some olives on blinis for hor d'oeuvres..." :D
*makes note to visit new deli*
Good luck with it btw... :)

well I've got a bit more time today as we will now not be opening until 12pm tomorrow(saturday)this is due to the late arrival of alot of the kitchen equipment.we felt it better to open properly rather than a half arsed effort.

It's not that bad really, alot of the problems has been the kitchen stuff turning up late, also a BT engineer workling on next doors phone cut off our landline(oh er missus)this morning and we missed some important calls.

Realised I'd met Nell before. Lovely service, great cheese, not cheap but then these things aren't. Wish her luck :)

Would a person who was doing the rounds of the Country Show wearing a plastic pigs head while swigging a pint of cider have any connection with these premises:confused: :D

I don't know, but I actually saw the bloke you're talking about. I'm not sure what look was worse - the full on mask treatment which saw a stangely small headed pig-man worrying people by dancing by the main stage. Or the slightly pissed later on pose which saw the pig mask propped on top his head to allow easy cider drinking, snout forming a worrying nipple/tit head appearance from a distance. On balance I marginally prefered the whole pigface treatment.

All I know is that he wanted to engage me in a conversation about the new deli on New Park Road while I was trying to flog some books on my stall to someone else!
I've been going to the new deli quite a bit to get bread and cheese - and have met linerider in there a few times <hello!>. I think it's going to do well - the shop is filling a gap that we've needed on that road, and it fits in well with the grocer and other shops. It's got a good selection of stuff, a bit pricey, but things like olive bread and cheeses aren't cheap anyway.
We're lucky on New Park Road - we don't have to use supermarkets at all! I only go to them for wine.

are prices displayed? I don't really go to delis but I've noticed a lot of them don't display prices :(

<bump>
Finally got around to visiting the deli last night. Very nice it is too. Cool that it's open until gone 7pm and a good location right next to the nice green-grocer/florist (the blokes in the hardware store opposite are always great too).
Support local shops before (and after) the super-markets turn Brixton Hill into blandsville.
I live locally and it's lovely to have somewhere to sit outside (weather permitting :p) and have a proper coffee. The owner, Nell, makes the best brownies ever too :D
will visit soon, live just off new park road.

Not everybody can happily afford to pay £3.50 for a loaf of bread!!!

Bit out of my way, however I will give it a go. It is nice to support wee businesses. I was speaking to linerider( presumambly ) or someone else whob works there on Saturday night in Albert. He has convinced me!!!
I heard the Chorizo is rubbish
