Granada :)
Snow capped mountains. Sunshine. Loads of independent shops for unique gifts. Pretty, pretty Christmas lights everywhere. Full on religious crap if you want it (it's good to do once to see what happens just for the cultural experience) - fantasy model story scenes (what do you call them? Nativity scenes or, something). The old Christmas spirit can still be found, but it's celebrated in a different way and at different times here. Effectively Christmas is just another Saints day, but they're all celebrated with fiestas and stuff.
Yeah - not hot I know. Didn't read that bit :D

UAE?? :D
I would go for any non-christian country really - but then i hate xmas and avoid it like the plague.. you could avoid all the nonsense somewhere like morrocco?
As you know Z, when I was looking around last Xmas, Vegas turned out the cheapest of all destinations (Europe wasn't on my list of destinations though).
Thailand/Goa etc were really expensive, SA and Aus were really expensive, you could try Mexico maybe? It's fairly cheap to get there and very cheap once there.

Well, if you don't want to actually miss Christmas, avoid non-Christian countries. How's about one of the Canary's - there'll be enough jingley things and lights there :D

The Costa del Sol, Hotel Luca Costa Lago. We stayed there a few years ago when it was a half board hotel, and it was v good. We arrived on Christmas Day, and stayed for two weeks. There was a real feast at New Year. I think it's gone all inc now.
Might not be the right thing though if you want loads of vibrant nightlife and clubbing - it's a mile or so out of Torremolinos.
The weather was great, though a bit too cold for swimming.
The day trip to Morocco is good.

The season in Turkey only runs from spring to autumn, but I hear they are trying to develop the winter sports.
I've heard Goa is v interesting, and cheap. Major drawbacks though are hygiene, and creepy crawlies, (mate of mine lived there for a while).

I've only ever met one Israeli backpacker, and she was ok.
But recently I've heard bad reports of them - what's your experience, gabi?

I would suggest Egypt or Mexico. I have been to the former for a beach holiday at Sharm El Sheik. Flying time is good for Egypt too at around 5 hours and you can get some good deals on either half board or all inclusives. I have been checking out recently the deals for Taba as I too need winter sunshine.

Incredibly safe, mate. You won't be allowed anywhere near dodgy war zones.
