Can you take a Swiss Army knife in your checked in luggage? (As opposed to hand baggage, where I know you can't).

Off to the 'dam v. soon, any advice on this welcome!

I've been caught twice with one in my hand luggage.
One time they sent it on in the next plane's luggage hold for me, and the second time I lost it. :mad: @ stupid me.

Thanks all. I was worried I might get it confiscated and they are such useful things I would hate to lose it.

Travelling by air = nightmare. I haven't done it since the big scare last year. It's all belts off, shoes off :eek: , liquids in hand luggage in clear plastic bags. Having time to browse the duty-free shops between check-in & departure seems to be a thing of the past.

<plans caravanning holiday in Norfolk ;) >

Never mind, Amsterdam was :cool: :)

Just travelled through Heathrow where shoes and belts left on, lighters and matches OK too, but water/toothpaste/hair gel etc. was taken.

Then travelled through San Francisco where belts and shoes off, lighters and mtahces confiscated, along with liquids and gels.

Then through Hong Kong where in theory liquids and gels are taboo, but in practice they didn't seem that bothered.

And in San Francisco I was in United's Red Carpet lounge where the barmaid was slicing up lemons with a great big knife, which she left on the bar when she went to the toilet. This was after security, so I could have picked it up and taken it on to the plane with me :eek:

No need for shoes off at Schiphol.
