View Full Version : Particularly irritating journeys..
Please - a compendium of places that should be easy to get to, but arent. I shall forward the completed thread to citydreams for further analysis. :)
Item 1: Wood Green to Homerton - a right pain in the arse..
So thats that. Wood Green to Homerton - the only irritating journey in London. Everything else's hunky dory.
cool.

Getting to Homerton from anywhere that isn't on the North London Line is a pain. There is a warp in the space-time continuum at Highbury and Islington statio which means that I always miss the eastbound NLL train to Hackney and Homerton by one minute, however late it was running.

What a strange thread.
Is it just about London places or can I have Stoke on Trent to Stockholm?
Nottingham to Alton Towers is mighty annoying.
Canada Water/Surrey Quays to Brixton - why is there no direct bus???

I got here via 'new posts' another interesting journey itself. I should have looked out of the window to see where I was I guess.:o
I always travel via new posts too. It's cheapest and fastest.

Brixton to any part of South East London.
Apart from the shitty little P4, why are their no buses from Brixton to South East London?
If you want to go into town or Croydon from Brixton, you are well catered for. But Brixton to Brockley or Bromley? Forget it

If you want to go into town or Croydon from Brixton, you are well catered for. But Brixton to Brockley or Bromley? Forget it :mad:As mentioned, you can get a train from Bromley South to Brixton. Takes around 20 mins. I used to live in Brockley and make the commute to Brixton. Utter nightmare, including going into London Bridge and taking the tube to Stockwell then changing. I swear it took me longer than getting into central London. Plus using a Zone 1 Travelcard when I was essentially travelling btwn 2 locations in Zone 2.
The P4 may be a shitty little bus, but it's quick from where I live now. From Forest Hill to Brixton it again takes about 20 mins because it cuts out the major traffic hotspots on the way by going through Dulwich Village. And it cuts out sitting in traffic on the High St as it goes down the side roads on the way into Brix Town Centre.
It's not just about crap services from Brixton to SE London. SW to SE London is a real faff. Yep, we are getting the Overground/tube/East London Railway/whatever it's called this week around my way. But they may cut the Forest Hill, Sydenham, CP to Clapham Jct and Victoria train instead.

Get to Peckham, then get another bus to SE London - piece of piss
Luton Airport to South Ealing on a sunday evening.
Kennington to Greenwich - takes an hour by public transport or 15 minutes in the car

Twickenham to Epsom (or any number of similar combinations requiring non-"In" / "Out" direction travel - selected this one as it is now my daily commute - thank God for the R1 (bike, not bus)! )
Nottingham to anywhere. Mysteriously adds a couple of hours to any journey, e.g. Blackpool to Southampton, six hours. Via Nottingham, nine. Magic.

Na, fucking annoying, buses are so slow, specially round that way. Would take a good hour to get anywhere.

Lewisham to Charlton. Fine in the day but a pain in the arse at night, since it's either two buses or a walk to Blackheath Hill - either of which is unappealing after a heavy night in Stonewall. :D

It's not just about crap services from Brixton to SE London. SW to SE London is a real faff.
Even by road it's a faff getting anywhere SW to SE or vice versa, because the whole area is carved up by railway lines, so that any journey is zig zag zig zag all the way. Even the Scircular is a glorified zigzag.

Anywhere outside london to stanstead.
Anywhere through Victoria Station at rush hour. It's filth, with the barriers and the sirens going off and the out-of-towners with their elbows
From Hackney to St James Park I get a bus to Liv St then the Circle Line to avoid the H&I/Victoria nightmare.

Bethnal Green to King's Cross
An 8 to Chancery Lane and a quick stroll (or another bus) up Grays Inn Road?
Bethnal Green to King's Cross
Central Line one stop to Liverpool Street, then Circle Line four stops to King's Cross? Not that bad, is it?

Yes, yes... but fairly massive dog-legs (massive relative to Zone 2, that is). Not being near Bethnal Green tube, it's annoying to start off walking directly away from King's X...
Southgate to Golders Green. You'd think someone would give us Jews and hand there (or maybe they assume we all have volvos).
