I heard something going bang in the early hours of the morning, and a few hours ago I was out walking the dog, I could see this huge black cloud, and as I was walking home the police were closing off the streets, they would'nt allow us into Deptford park!

Yeah - all the trains are messed up.

Ended up getting the East London line which runs v. close to where the fire is - pretty smelly smoke....

Could smell the smoke as the train passes New Cross this morning, and trains at london bridge are proper fucked, not a bother though

Perhaps because of the disruption on the trains, the roads around Greenwich are jammed solid. There's traffic backed up right into Charlton along the Woolwich Road. As I walked into Greenwich this morning I passed three or four buses stuck in traffic. My walk takes about 35 minutes: my guess is that it'd have been more like an hour and a quarter on the bus...

Great photo here. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/images/2007/04/26/deptfordfire_orchardhill_420x330.jpg)

I didn't know anything about this until I got into work. Don't know if I'd have seen anything while passing through New Cross Gate or not.

It's taken me nearly 3 hours to get into work today cos of this, mostly spent hanging around waiting. I wouldn't mind but I can walk it in 2-and-a-half hours!

Probably that or the tidal flow thingy on the Blackwall tunnel

Maybe, but the Blackwall Tunnel is always a bottleneck and it was much, much worse than usual today.

i saw this as i was on the train this morning - coming from streatham we suddenly passed through a bit of a haze, then as we got to the other side of millwalls stadium, we could see the smoke from the fire and the jets of water - looked pretty intense, even from a good km to 2km away.

Our train went out of service once we got into london bridge, so I was pretty lucky, travel wise this morning.

Just been out again -there's still a lot of smoke , although it's not as black as it was this morning the smell of it is still pretty bad. I nearly choked as I came out of Sainsburys earlier.

The thursday before Easter there was an absolutely massive black cloud over east london - anyone know what that was?

I went through New Cross yesterday and it was full of smoke.

Maybe, but the Blackwall Tunnel is always a bottleneck and it was much, much worse than usual today. But since last week, it has gotten even worse due to the tidal flow being cancelled.
