I would have it down as Smithfields of Smithfield. It does nice food and because of its location you can get a pint early there as well.

I used to use a great place close to Ealing Broadway tube station. A few years ago mind. They did the best baked beans in the whole wide world. Really mushy and rich and garlicy. Bleedin lovely on a hungover Sunday. Come out of tube and go right - it's on your right top corner of the green. Anyone know if it's still there?

Had a gorgeous brunch at the Frizzante cafe last weekend, next to Hackney City Farm. Pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs, drizzled with maple syrup.

Tried it on sun but wasn't that impressed - the food wasn't too overpriced (unlike the drinks :eek: ) but it wasn't very nice either. And really quite wanky!

I mean, what is brunch? I've got no objection if it's actually a meal/snack between breakfast and lunch, but so often nowadays it seems to be used in place of one of these; where's the sense in that?

And so, I don't really believe that most of this talk of brunch is really of brunch, but rather, of breakfast, or occasionally lunch, but simply by a more exotic name.

Brunch is when you get up late so dont eat brekfast and need something that isn't quite lunch because you've only just got up but isn't brekfast 'cos it's after 11.

Whatever you eat when you first get up is, by definition, breakfast :p

The sort of breakfast eaten after at eleven in the morning will of course be generally different to an earlier breakfast (larger and heavier), but it is breakfast nonetheless! Surely the existence and widespread use of the phrase 'all-day breakfast' is evidence of this?

If you go straight for a full-on lunch-style meal, such as a plate of pasta or a roast, I suppose you could call it lunch even though you are still technically breaking your fast.

Brunch is different from a late breakfast in that it replaces both breakfast and lunch, even though it may consist of the same foods as a breakfast.

Best breakfast/brunch I've had is in the Walpole on St Mary's Road, between Ealing Broadway and South Ealing. The big breakfast is proper big too, with bubble and squeak.

Tootsies? It closed down. :mad: But there are other branches in Chiswick and Richmond. Their big breakfast used to come with 3 sausages.

haha... to be fair its not quite a recomendation...

Exactly. :D I'd add that it tends to be a very drawn out affair, possibly with hangovers and friends involved.
