View Full Version : Amsterdam (but not red light)?
Hiya, any regular travellers to the dam here? thought there might be...
I must confess, on the 3-4 times ive been there i havent left the red light. :o Which i'll be trying to rectify this time...
Me and a few mates are trying to track down a decent place to stay in July, not in the red light tho.... im under explicit orders there...
Preferably a decent hostel that'll have a room for 6 or so? Or maybe an apartment...
Does west of damrak/spuistraat area mean anything to anyone?
If not, its back to the grasshopper i crawl!
thank u for any help...
whats your budget?
I keep staying at the rho in nes centurm (just off dam square)
Cheapish, very clean, bang in the center and not in the red light district.
If theres 6 you'd need to get two 3 people rooms, they got a website:

Budget - no idea, not too cheap, but yeh not hilton level.. just something fun.. if it was up to me i'd be staying on a boat! but i guess thats way too expensive..
The Van Gogh Museum (http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/van_gogh_museum/) is worth a visit

The flying pig uptown (as opposed to downtown) is quite nice. And it's near that lovely park too. I think they've got 6 bed rooms.

I always stay at the very reasonable Hotel Quentin. They have a couple of places, the Leidseplein one is my fave and has the best prices. 3 of you to a room could work out to be quite reasonable.
They have a website, do a search. :)
Get a houseboat. You'll find loads of private ads if you google - usually with an e-mail for bookings. It's very cheap and would be perfect for 6 if you don't mind sharing (there's usually 2 double bedrooms, sometimes 3).

Hotel Acro, off Museumplein, budget but very decent, there's a park around the corner with a lido - lovely in the summer. Right round the corner from the Van Gogh and Rijks
Highly recommended, dead easy to get to by tram from Centraal. Also not far from Vondelpark

When I used to go regularly to Amsterdam we always used to stay here & by the looks of it they have recently done it up. Ask for a second floor side room over looking the canal, lovely & quite..

The Hemp Hotel? (http://www.hemp-hotel.com/)
Doesn't have 3 bedded rooms. They do a late breakfast though, if you're going to be out partying might be worth thinking about.
I liked Hotel Fantasia, they do have 3 bedded rooms. Apparently it has new owners since I was last there though.

Does west of damrak/spuistraat area mean anything to anyone? You've probably been on Damrak -- it's the big, dirty street heading South from Centraal Station ;) :D, and Spuistraat is a couple of roads parallel to the West.

There is the Centre Apartments (http://www.trivago.co.uk/amsterdam-46814/hotel/centre-apartments-amsterdam-106344) or Eva's (http://www.trivago.co.uk/amsterdam-46814/hotel/evas-apartment-service-105894). You can also browse through the other accommodations (http://www.trivago.co.uk/amsterdam-46814/hotel#) which have been reviewed and rated at trivago (http://www.trivago.co.uk). The main section for Amsterdam (http://www.trivago.co.uk/amsterdam-46814) also has links to recommended websites and details of things to see & do locally. Enjoy your trip!!
