can anyone recommend a hotel / apartments - somewhere lovely & romantic for 2 newlyweds to stay in santorini for 2 nights in october? we're getting married in crete & planning to escape from the wedding party (70 irish people!) for a few nights on our own. we've been to crete manys the time & have always wanted to see santorini so it's the perfect opportunity & we're willing to splurge a few euro for a nice place cos it's a special occasion... i've been on tripadvisor & googled loads - all the hotels look fab & i cant make a decision, so a recommendation would do the trick nicely.
think we wanna stay in Oia to get the sunsets....

any thoughts anyone??

thank you :)

(p.s. if chorlton is reading - still looking likely that the main honeymoon will be in may or june 2008 in peru - thanks!)

we are getting married there this sept. staying in the el grecco hotel - but i dont think its that great to be honest. some of the family are staying in the cliffside suites just north of fira in firosteffani which look amazing. i think id rather stay there and may try to re-arrange. i would take a look here if i were you to see the various accomodation - have a look for the cliffside suites:

It's expensive compared to a lot of the other islands but very, very beautiful. You'll need to hire a bike/car to get around because transport's pretty shit but the scenery is fantastic.

We went there for a friend's wedding a few years ago - here's the photos: http://www.urban75.org/photos/santorini/index.html

We camped when we went to Santorini - what a great place.
I'd def. stay in Oia if I went back - not much help, but at the very bottom of the town by the tiny harbour there was a small guest house/hotel place set back almost in the cliff face that looked idyllic - and right next to little restaurant serving fish you can see them catching (bbq squid was tops).
Ooh I'm jealous! Have a lovely time.:)

I stayed at the north end of the island. It was full of happy couples happy coupling. There are loads of little jewelery shops and great views up there. You can also walk down to a little cove with loads of rocks for jumping off and sunbathing on. Truly a lovely place.

what documentation did you need to hire a car over there? - and were the rental rates fairly good?

ours is last week of sept - apparently they dont tell you the actual date till you get there - so could be any day in the last week of sep. we have to be there for a week - 3rd week of sept legally to get married then we have the wedding in the second week. family are coming over for the start of the second week to make sure they dont miss it!

i know what you mean about the expense - but just think of all the money you will be saing by not having a big bash in the uk and then spoil yourself on all the money that you will be saving!

Don't stay at the hotel with concrete swans round the pool. ;)
