You know Jonny Boyle gives the date of the Stokefest as September, but I wonder if that is because it was postponed last year.
Fuck.. maybe Johnny Boyle is a random nutter..

Is that the one that Dolly the sheep got stolen from a few years back? Last seen heading up Camberwell New Road under someone's arm. A true tale I'm told.
Is that the one that Dolly the sheep got stolen from a few years back? Last seen heading up Camberwell New Road under someone's arm. A true tale I'm told.
Yup it is:
BonkersFest! ’06 attracted significant media interest particularly from the local South London Press. A prop sheep was stolen and the paper initiated a campaign and an award to find the sheep who was indeed found in a bush. Since then the sheep has featured in a campaign to save the local Emergency 24 hour psychiatric walk in clinic led by Southwark Mind and Creative Routes.

Last year did:
Peace march with mate with small children,
dash across town to
Great British Beer Fest with mate with small children and they ran out of been when we got there,
dash across town to
Fruitstock which was the messiest thing I have ever been to. And not in a drug sense, either

its why ive been jumping the fence like a cunt since i was 13.. its good but not worth the 8 quid as there is no decent music pretty much and the rest is stools... its fun just not worth the cash
8 quid for Kingston Fair marks it death knell. Nice location for a drink and a bit of a festi. 2-3 quid max.

Do you mean the big sexy festy party? That was great, but I must have missed the free love tent :(
I went to a benefit night for this years fest last November and spoke to one of the organisers who was hopeful it would be back. I seem to remember hearing about last year's one very close to the date though.

Will get going on this one a bit more, when I have more time. In a bit of a rush ...
In the 'What Festivals are you going to' thread, started by johhnymarrsbarrs in music, Skim definitely confirmed that Stokefest was on 10th June. She provided a link too. I'll look at the johnnyboyle site later, but if it still says September, perhaps that's just out of date recycling of last years info.
Lambeth Country Show -- a definite!!! But it's a bit crap that they never seem to have a website til the last minute. Rise -- overcrowded and fairly crap. LCS -- excellent!
When I have more time I want to confirm whether and when the 'Big Sexy Festie Party' (Finsbury Park) is happening.
<oprays for 16th June not 10th -- I'll be in Wales on the 10th>
But 16th is dangerously close to Glasto and that might be awkward for the organisers.
GOTTA DASH!

They played last year. Was a bit special for all the local gentlemen of the street as the stage is about 6 inches high so the pissed up gentlemen got to dance with the cheeky ones. Can't find the pictures so you'll have to believe me on this one.
Supprised Hollis hasn't picked up on Iron Maiden, Elvis and Bachman Turner Overdrive :D at a freebee maybe I didn't make it clear about the quality of the acts?

London Mela

Gunnersbury Park
(Access: Popes Lane, W3)

London’s largest Asian cultural festival enters its 5th year. With more than 50,000 spectators, this is one of the most colourful and vibrant festivals in the country. With a number of stages ranging from classical Asian music to the new beats on the Radio 1 stage, there is something for everyone at this family event.
--- --- ---
There is an entrance charge to enter the Jazz Festival for the first time in 23 years this year :( Only £1, but that's what a Tory council gets you it seems, and I bet it won't be just a pound in a few years time. The charge is to help pay for the fencing, apparently. Well take down the bloody fences then innit! No need!
no clue if already mentioned, but chas n dave return to southwark park bandstand as part of "the big picnic"
July 8th
Watch the action as the Tour de France passes the park and then move into the park around the bandstand to join us in an afternoon family picnic event. Bring your rugs and deck chairs, get out the food, listen to some great music and laugh at some street theatre. Headline acts include Chas and Dave and Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band. The event includes a French market, children’s activities and a large screen so we can watch the tour as it progresses to Canterbury.
and of course, the day before is The Event (i.e. bermondsey carnival) with music, fairground, fireworks etc, and i think "the real thing" are playng (if they're the ones who sang "you to me are everything" that is)

Bump - this weekend -
Also in SOuth London this Sunday 17th June theres a music arts thing in Camberwell's Lucas GArdens
also south of the river is the Coin Street Festival - Celebrating Sancutary
Bernie Spain Gardens, on the South Bank (next to oxo tower)
Kicking off Refugee Week 2007 in London, Celebrating Sanctuary celebrates the enormous contribution that refugee communities make to the cultural life of the capital. Showcasing the work of musicians, artists, dancers and storytellers, the Festival offers Londoners a chance to taste the cultural fruits of sanctuary. The event also provides a platform for new performances and artworks, many of which are the culmination of outreach projects involving refugee artists working with children and young people in their communities. Plus stalls filled with food, drink and crafts from many refugee communities and workshop activities for all the family.
think the festivities continue on sunday too, with a british theme (whatever that means  )
