Hello,
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced Man and Van for removals on Saturday in Brixton?
Standard Transit would be OK.
cheers
Might be able to put a mate onto this: give me a minute...

there's a chain of badly painted, battered red / purpleish vans all over brixton with the rates painted on them in white dulux. Normally one parked near Jamm for starters..

I hear they're pretty dodgy, though.

I know someone that used these guys ... I think they were Ok-ish but turned up rather late and there were various "weekend surcharges" and the like added onto the rates painted on the van.
(Are there several vans by the way? I always assumed it was the same one parked in various different locations?)

yeah there are several; at least three cos i passed one in Gipsy Hill station another on Croxted Road and saw one in Brixton. they're all designed (believe it or not) to look the same but there have different shapes and sizes
used them on one occasion at work and they were late and we only gave them the job cos they said they could do it in time but they fucked up by two hours

we hired these guys (http://www.carima-2.com/). £30 per hour if you get the bloke to help you - cheaper if not. Available at pretty short notice. I very much recommend.
only in cases of utter desperation should you use them
Loads of extra charges and a tendency to get furniture through doors by bashing it at the door until either the sofa or doorfarme reshapes itself to allow passage.
The worst

The bloke who moved me was cheap, reliable and comes with a handy sidekick to move bigger stuff. He's also moved another urbanite so comes with refs :) He's got a hi-top Luton; pm if you want his number.

In the end I used this lot: he turned up a bit late, but called ahead and was a nice bloke who grafted like a bastard and was very careful with my stuff. Very late notice for a weekend job, too.
£100 for a big move involving white goods, heavy furniture and a full kitchen's worth of crap was good value.
Thanks for the tips and PMs off this thread.
Yeah, my mate was up for it but should learn not to leave his mobile in the car...
Glad you got sorted anyway mate.
