Well I knew there are lots of them - but I've just found out that the flock apparently now numbers 5,000!!!!! Apparently their roost is at South London crematorium in Lewisham and the ones we see in Brocky Park are little groups of up to 30 birds out on daytrips who go back to Lewisham at night!

I used to see them even as a teenager in South London but they've obviously been pretty loved up since then!!

Yeah, big flocks of them fly over my Mums back garden at dusk on summer days, apparently the warmer winters mean more of them are surviving.

I have some in the oak tree at the bottom of my garden, they are totally mental birds flying in huge flocks and doing acrobatics such as upside-down flying etc, plus making loads of noise.

There are loads on my grandads farm in Jamaica but i never expected to see them in the UK.

The biggest numbers are out in West London, with a roost of up to 5000 pairs next to the rugby club in Esher. Think I posted some photos of em last year.

Population is set to double in the next couple of years.

Soon, those random ones you spot will be making their own communal roosts in places like Norwood Park and (appropriately) the Rookery on Streatham Common.

@Moon - I'd be surprised if they were the same species - these ones come from temperate climes in Northern India, similar to our climate, not the realitively equatorial climate of the Carribean...

They're fucking annoying. They're not indigenous, they're aggressive and they make a horrible noise.

Kill em in the face.

:D In what way aggressive though? I've seen em being chased by sparrowhawks on the Thames by Isleworth and Brentford ait's.

Fucking noisy though, I'll agree. Imagine living next to the roost in Esher!

They scare all the other birds off the bird table. There's not a lot of sparrowhawks round here :D

I love them parakeets!

When I lived, briefly, in Sydney we had Rainbow Lorikeets in my back garden. Thay made a racket but I forgave them because they were so fabulous to look at!

I've only ever seen the parakeets in hanwell. I know people that live less than a mile from me that say they get them about all the time, but never in my garden, or in the park near me.

Maybe if the parakeets become less scared of humans they'll start picking up bits of London speech.

We see a lot of them up top Peckam Rye/Nunhead. Much like the green parakeets I used to see in Delhi.

Woo.. When do we get the palm squirrels?
