Walked past the place and it's shut apparently for good- everything has been cleared off the shelves. I could swear it was open for business last week...

Don't understand it either. It always looked reasonably well patronised to me. They had a decent foreign film section as well.

I guess we'll have to make do with the smaller one in West Norwood now.

Apollo went bust. The Apollo in HH has been taken over by another company but they never got around to do the refit. It should reopen again soon with the new frontage. :)

It's not surprising video shops are suffering in this day and age with t'interweb, Sky Box Office, VOD and so on.

Eh:confused: ... I thought the parent group Filmnight only put its rental stores subsidiary (which included Apollo Video, Primetime, Filmnight and Vidbiz stores) "into administration" at the start of February.

I believe that the former owners of the Primetime stores are buying those back from the administrators, but didn't think any of those were in this part of the world.

I'm just repeating what the people in "the shop formerly known as" Apollo told me tbh. I think Primetime is the name she said it would be reopening as - but I don't remember for sure - but she told me this in January I think it was. Sorry I don't know the ins and outs of the financial side, not very clued up about that sort of thing anyway - but basically Apollo is gone - someone else is opening up in it's place. :) I'm sure all will be revealed shortly.

That is a load of crap, I don't know who told you that ?

My sister was working there at the time when it closed down. They were not given any warning that the shop would be closing, the only indication that something funny may have been happening was that the new stock had failed to arrive in the last week.

Basically they went to open the store up one morning only to find bailiff notices and the locks changed. Neither the store manager or the area manager had any idea about what had happened. They were in a right panic because all the stock had been seized. Turned out that the landlord had increased the rent and Apollo refused to pay up.

At this moment in time it will certainly not be re-opening as a video store under any name.

It was a young lady working there - has the store completely closed now? If so I was told this whilst it was still open with the Apollo signage up. She told me that it was no longer Apollo's business but that the signs had not yet been changed. She was only young so maybe that's what she had been told? I honestly don't know, and as I said before, I'm only repeating what I had been told by the person in the shop.

I'm sorry for what happened to your sister. Having lost a job in a very similar way (only we were all escorted off the premises by security guards to stop us from nicking anything) I can sympathise. :(
