Apparently hundreds of Christians plan to march through South London in a a “prayer walk” this evening to highlight the recent
killings. The torch-lit event will take place from Peckham Square to Brixton’s Windrush Square at about 17.00.

Sounds like this event would probably provide some good photography opportunities. :)

What about the left?
Why aren't they organising a march against this cancer infesting working class communities,or isn't it right on enough?

Good question - and I think you've answered it yourself.

The evangelical creationist I sit next to is frothing at the gills about it. It's almost worth going just to see if the riot police baton charge them like they would if it was the left.
Not gonna happen is it?

What would that achieve?

They've just gone past my house - and it was a fucking huge march!

The Gospel-tastic message was good too: "Young men, put down your guns."

Good luck to them. Good to see a part of the community taking action.

Oh wow. :) People always dismiss these things saying 'they don't have any effect on gun crime/knife crime/gangs/youths etc'. But they're bringing a community together for a common reason, that is a positive effect if ever there was one. I wish I could have been a part of that :)

From the Press Association last night:

Among those taking a personal stand against the gangs at tonight's march was 46-year-old Tony Thomas.
His son, Adrian Thomas, was the ringleader of the gang which tortured and
murdered Reading teenager Mary-Ann Leneghan.
He said: "As I promised her family, I wasn't going to let Mary-Ann's death
just go like that, I'm glad to be here and be part of what is going on.
"My thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their children."
Pointing to the crowds bringing traffic to a standstill as the procession
reached Brixton, he added: "This is the real community - our community is being tarnished by the actions of a few."
As the march reached Brixton's Windrush Square, police estimated that the crowd had grown to more than 2,000.
There was ecstatic applause for Superintendent Leroy Logan, the most senior
black police officer in London.
He told the audience: "I know what we have here, we have people power and it will be people in our community that change it. We have to recognise that we are not standing back any more."
Among those who had lost loved ones to gang violence was 48-year-old Blacker Dread, whose 24-year-old son Soloman Martin was shot dead on New Year's Eve 2004.
He said afterwards: "It has devastated my family, I've got about 10 of my
family here tonight and anything like this - they all support it.
"It is devastating, they never found the killer of my son and that makes it
even worse.
"The 4th of March will be two years since he was buried, it never stops."
