A DVD is stuck in my machine and won't shift, I've turned it off overnight but still won't budge, any ideas/repair dudes? Thanks

I assume it is stuck in your PC drive? If there is a pinhole on the front, insert a paperclip into it, to force the drive to eject.

Yeah, don't need a service engineer to do this.

Power it off, hold down the eject button, then switch it back on whilst still holding down eject.

If it goes into stand-by don't let go of the eject button, just hit the ON switch at the same time.

It was a DVD/Video player not on my laptop, but holy mackerel I just did as you advised pk and it's bloody worked. Thanks very much.

In fact to all advisors (even the claw hammer, after a couple of hours I was thinking of using one myself). :)

Sorry to hijack your thread Fenian

Last time my video player died - I think :(

Was quite happenly watching it and it suddenly switched off. There's a dimmed digital display instead of the normal lit up one. I have changed batteries in doofer, changed the fuse in the plug, tried hitting every button on the machine itself and nothing seems to be working.

Any idea what's wrong. I'm hoping it's not a tape jammed up.

I've only had it less than 18 months

Glad it worked - knew it would.
