if you liked yamboy at urban75's OFFLINE, here's another chance to catch him for free in brixton this week. it's the last of his CHAPATI nights at the ritzy cafe - we'll miss him for sure but he's off to africa for a while...also highly recommended, KHETHI (soul/afro from south africa) and Zena Edwards on Weds.

Wed 11 Oct – DJ Eric Soul’s Afrogroov feat Khethi & Zena Edwards
Eric Soul’s forum for semi-acoustic up-and-coming talent, crews and collectives from the African diaspora. Twice a month (second Wed and last Sat of the month) DJ Eric Soul spins us a mix that takes in Dakar, Rio, London, Paris and many more ports of call. Following in the footsteps of Khethi, Sanchita Furruque and D’Banj, each night includes a guest performer adding the vital live ingredient for the evening’s proceedings. Tonight he is spoiling us with both KHETHI and ZENA EDWARDS. Anyone who caught Khethi on her last trip to Europe from her native South Africa a year back or so will be rushing to the handful of her gigs during this sojurn. An astounding blend of soul, hip-hop and r&b with a healthy dose of her South African heritage thrown in for good measure. Part Lauryn Hill, part Erykah Badu, part Miriam Makeba, when her debut album comes out you'll be saying 'i saw her first', trust us. As for Zena Edwards, she is a luminary of the spoken word scene: an un-misaable night.

Thu 12 Oct – Chapati
Yamboy’s Chapati night has seen classical musicians toughing it out with spoken-word hip hop tomfoolery and soul divas. Expect the quirky, the funky and downright irreverent from the cream of London’s Asian scene. This is his last appearance with us before heading off to Africa to write a book. Good luck and send us a postcard, mate.
Fri 13 Oct – Mudibu & Scintillas
Seven piece M&S are back after a year long absence from the London scene. With previous sets at the Jazz Café, The Spitz and Cargo under their belt, this should be a riotous return to form featuring their blend of reggae, jazz and funk.
Sat 14 Oct – Cabaret
The sultry Swedish vocalist Asa Hasselblad (with Martin Morris on accordion) sings Jaques Brel, Edith Piaf, Cornelis Wreeswijk and other rarities. With compere comedian / magician Christian Lee (as seen on TV’s Max Magic), the night also features a performance of a modern love story based loosely on Cyrano de Bergerac – a dark world of gardening and rare flowers.

Sun 15 Oct – Polaris
After a lengthy absence from the Ritzy Café, Italian double bassist Mantovani returns with his exploration of jazz and electronica, pushing the boundaries with live on stage sampling, percussion, bass and assorted instruments. Bassist of choice for the likes of Monica Vasconcelos and Antonio Forcione amongst many others, Davide draws on his knowledge and feel for South
