Hello all,

Back in the early, heady days of the information superhighway, I remember constant plaudits for urban75 in the now-defunct but then-great Internet Magazine. Back then Brixton was just a place on the Tube map for me but now, about 10 years later, I'm actually here!

After finding these forums a fount of local knowledge and wisdom (the loud scary helicopters (http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=170016&highlight=helicopters) incident being a dramatic example), I thought I'd post a couple of questions I've been wondering about for a while:

1. Can anyone recommend a good local paper?

2. Does anyone know of a newsagent that does a paper round in the Acre Lane area (or is this wishful thinking)?

Many thanks!

Owen.

Yogi Agencies on Acre Lane deliver our papers.

It's the newsagent next to the launderette between Plato and Solon rds.

In my experience most British local papers basically live off crime stories.

up to a point Lord Copper....small ads, local issues eg road widening, local history, local good news ....more a 'all human life is here' thing

The South London Press is our local rag, and not a bad one, as local papers go.

Gosh, internet magazine. That's how I got onto urban75 as well (also in a delayed stylee).

I found Urban 75 because it was attacked in the Daily Mail.

Thanks for all your suggestions so far!

I'll pop into Yogi Agencies this evening, though not to buy the Daily Mail I should add...

The SLP - pretty good paper, bi-weekly.

Don't read the SLP it will only depress and scare you. Collating all the horror from a catchment area of 2-3m people and making you feel like it's happening on your doorstep.

Multiply the catchment by about 2000 and you've got the world service!
