spangles posting:

i was suire there'd already be a thread. We were in herne hill and sometime, maybe between 5-6am we were woken up but the loudest, longest thunderclap i have ever heard in my life.

really deafeaningly loud and deep and rumbly - but quite prolonged too. Followed by no more thunder but torrential rain.

or maybe Monkeygrinder's and i are having shared hallucinations.

Yes... I got woken up by it too

Was the loudest thunder I've ever heard, and the lightning was pretty bright too

Soon went back to sleep though.

Oh yes. The rain was amazing too - I looked out to see three people with umbrellas struggling down Coldharbour and they had to hold their brollies nearly horizontal!

I was already awake because my husband had trodden on me getting out of bed for a pee.....lightning and distantish thunder, next thing the rain starts lashing down like stair-rods, simultaneous lightning & thunder and we're rushing round closing windows as the rain's coming in almost horizontally...

I was told that I slept through the worst of it - the noise of the rain puts me to sleep - but did hear some thunder about 5am. The roads were still partially flooded when I drove to work at about 8:40am.
Must have been some storm. :D

Earplugs mean I don't hear a thing at night nowadays. Couldn't work out why it was so sunny but the ground was so wet this morning. This would certainly explain things :)

It woke me up, too. I'm going to write to the council to complain.
