Oh yeah doh... 192.168.x.x is an internal address

Sigmund Fraud
15-09-2006, 19:11
192.168.x.x is a private IP range - Crispy needs to get his public IP and map that to his private 192.168.1.65 and via NAT - and then give us the public IP and port no.

How's the framerate guys?
There should be pan/tilt controls around the edge, not sure how it works with multiple users.

Ah, no you don't have enough permissions. Probably a good thing for the mo, cos you could pan round and see me eating :)

It's very cool to be able to make the buses go the other way, but won't it cause an accident?

Loki
15-09-2006, 19:23
The framerate went from quite a few per second (about 50Kbps) down to quite jerky and about 19Kbps. Now it's 10Kbps and the frames very intermittent.

eta and now dead. we've killed it :(
edit2: And now back up. I gather the "Connection: 10" at bottom means 10 people looking?

Agent Sparrow

Yes. And as we just discussed, if other people could move it round to face inwards, we doubt that anyone would be nice and change it back if they happened to do that at an, um, private moment. Oh no. You'd all start a thread in general! :p

Can you limit the frames/update per user with the cam ?

I'm interested in one myself for home security reasons, my neighbours have been broken into nuff over this summer.

That was pretty damn funny. I'm sitting here, 8000km from Brixton, 1AM PST, getting warmly smashed on single malt, yelling ALOUD to meself at my monitor: "Ten degrees to the right! TEN DEGREES TO THE RIGHT!!!!" :D

By the way, that's pretty good resolution; one of the best I've seen for a webcam. I'm not sure if it's due to my kit/fat pipe (T3) on this end, or the webcam, etc. on your end, but it looks 'almost live'...

It jiggles from side to side like a confused kitten. Basicly, if you log on and it's moving around, be polite and let the other person finish. If it's just scanning side to side like a robot, someon probably clicked "auto" and you can click that again to take manual control.

EDIT: right, there's a big black box round it now, so there's no chance at all of even accidental peekage :)
Plus I gave the window a wipe, aren't I nice?

Whenever I try and log on at work, I get a server time out error. I get as far as pressing enter for the password, the java screen comes up and then a message. Is this likely to be my work server do you think? Only seems to happen there

Otherwise love this. Especially enjoy standing outside woolworths trying to spot the thing and wave.

It's probably your work, yes. It doesn't use standard ports - and your company is probably very sensible and has a very tight firewall. Don't think there's much I can do about it :(

There might be a way I can get it to send the latest .jpg to my ftp server, and from there include it in a web page, but I don't want to do that if it means continuous recording - privacy issues etc.

In Internet explorer, go to Tools-Internet Options then Advanced and make sure Java or JRE is turned on.
In firefox, go to Tools-Options then Web Features and make sure Java is turned on

gIf neither of those work, then go here:

and click download now. once it's downloaded, close all your browser windows and run the thing you downloaded. hit next where appropriate :)

reload the cam and cross your fingers.

You have a strict-ass firewall :)

do you know how to work it? - open ports 800 TCP and 8001 UDP

if you don't know how, then you may be out of luck, which is a crying shame :(

Guineveretoo
25-09-2006, 21:14
Of course I don't know how to use it :)

It's ZoneAlarm. I have just been trying to find a bit which would let me open ports, but I see nothing which makes reference to ports.

I suspect it's because the port numbers are a bit strange - especially the 800 for http. Don't think there's much that can be done :(

It's like crossing the streams in ghostbusters - the end of the world begins in brixton.
Not really. It just moves one way then the other - I imagine it polls the button more regularly than the human hand can click.

Crispy

Could people restrict their use of the 'auto' button? It means the camera pans hard left to hard right non stop and back again until someone actively stops it. I have no idea what lifetime the servos that move it are rated for and don't want them to wear out. Thank you :)

After this thread:
http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=183375&highlight=surveilance

I had second thoughts about the privacy implications of the webcam. On sunday, when I went to the market to get the weekly veg, I asked some of the people on the high st. if they minded having a webcam on them. The general response was "I don't mind, but I don't like being followed or targeted"

With that in mind, I've pointed the camera away from an angle where you can actually recognise anyone as more than a few blobby pixels, and turned off the steering controls. This means glare in the morning - I'll try and make a sunshade.

Does that seem reasonable to people?
