View Full Version : Brixton bar & grill out of business?
Walked passed there this morning and there's a sign offering the leasehold for sale. They haven't been open since they went on their summer break in August and I think they were supposed to reopen about 2 weeks ago.
If they've gone out of business I suppose it's a shame but I can't say I'm sorry to see it go. The prices were horrendous (plus insisting on you having table service and then whacking on a 12.5% service charge   ) and frankly the clientele was a bit ra for my tastes. I also found the bouncer on the door very off-putting.
Would love it to turn into something really good (I shan't start the "what Brixton needs is a decent pizza/curry/chicken in a basket place" as that one's been done to death ;) ).
Anyone got any inside knowledge on what the deal is?

I don't know either, but I was cynical about its chances of reopening when I walked past a 'Still on Holiday. Back soon' sign a few days ago.
BBG may not have been my style, but it didn't seem to be doing particularly terribly for itself, with a seemingly fairly steady trade when I walked past. It's a bit of a cavernous and misleading space though, so perhaps initial appearances were misleading.
Meanwhile the refurbishment of Neon seems to crawl on a ridiculously slow space, no doubts before opening up into another ill thought out concept. They've got some way to go to beat the misjudged Martini bar concept mind.
And bizarrely Ichiban Sushi, who switched to a much more soothing shade of wall covering, seem to have a funny turn and painted the walls oppressively bright green again. What's that about then?

They did seem to be doing ok although perhaps not spectacularly. There was always a few people in there during the week and it was doing okish trade at the weekends (although perhaps not as much as they could have). I don't know what the deal is with rent etc. but the places under the arches can't be too expensive I would have thought
So long as Ichiban don't go doing anything crazy with their food I don't mind what colour they paint it :D

I will actually slightly miss the place. I know it was really expensive, but it did make a wicked mohito.

That's true...
Pricey but fantastic. Went in on payday once and couldn't resist. It was spectacular...:D
I think the place had a metalic cavernous charm
Yeah I'll miss it if it's gone too. It may have rankled with many Brixtonians but I thought it rather amusing to sip deliciously prepared cocktails about four doors down from the pissy station stairwell and the "Even Cheaper Than Closing Down Sale" 50p shop. As for Neon: he seems to be trying every colour he's got for the front (currently replicating Bar 2-4-6-8's filthy brown)
I refused to pay the service charge after waiting 45mins for a pint in there - they were right arsey but gave me the pint for free - the cocktails were nice but it was just too expensive really.

Odds on - it'll become:
1) Halal butchers
2) Cash & Carry food stuff
3) Hairdressers & Nail bar

I think Brixton needs another chicken shop ;)
Chicken Shop? Clearly what is needed is another fish shop
Model Railway store please.

Or another bar, there are not enough drinking establishments.
I really liked the pizza place that was there before BBG; Panagea or something like that was called.
Don't know why they closed. They seemed to be doing reasonably well...

I just can't quite believe it..:confused:I had a load of shopping and just wanted to take the weight off my feet and have a coffee or a beer...I was told there was a private party going on...I think this was untrue as a young couple who were outside at the same time and said "Shall try this place out then?" were admitted without question....

Well not surprising they're selling up if they're not letting top Brixton personalities in! :D
