From what I could see a little girl had been hit by a car - the (presumably) father was going completely insane... police everywhere - they actually looked really freaked out when they arrived. Someone said they thought she was dead, then I heard "at least she's alive" but I didn't get close enough to see what it looked like.
Anyone?

I live very close but had to come away as it was too upsetting. It was literally minutes before I posted this. :(
God.. that guy was hysterical. :( Fucking horrible.
Crowds and crowds of people... I didn't get a good feeling when the police arrived and reacted quite hysterically, yelling at people to clear out of the way.
... Right outside the Albert iirc - lying in the middle of the road.
i doubt it was a particularly fast impact on that bit of road.
wait a while and i'll seeif i can find out if they were ok.

i doubt it was a particularly fast impact on that bit of road. You'd be surprised.....
edited to qualify that statement.
It depends at what time between traffic light sequences it was...there are points when the road ahead is empty for the first car through the lights, and if that's the case, some drivers really put their foot to the floor till the next lights....I've been terrified by the speed some people do along that stretch, at any time of day or night....
fair play - i guess i only go down it when its choked with transport at midday. or empty at night.
vixen - my mates not in work tonight cos he's off sick. sorry

I guess there are ways of finding out. I might not though.
Just hope she's alright.
Oh god, that's terrible.
:(
I went out with my little boy in the pram today and was hyper aware of cars and buses, and how fragile he is. I passed a guy with one of those dogs on a chain and it was really freaky...
I hope she's OK.

Yeah exactly! Apparently the cops had stopped a kid cycling on the pavement and was then peted with bricks and stuff by kids fro mthe estate and a couple of people from the barbershop!
By the time I got there it went tearing past me with windows smashed a two scared looking PCs!
oh dear.
its not hot enough for people to be acting like that

When I went through Loughbrough Junction at 6.30, there were police everywhere, and police tape up round one of the chicken shops, one of the workers clutching his arm and covered in flecks of blood, several police cars, and a van blocking the entrance to Shakespere Road, with a guy in cuffs sitting on it's rear steps.
Unrelated?

it was chaos last night. we had at least half a dozen pigmobiles racing down kellett road at frankly stupid speeds. and when i popped out i noticed what you might call tension in the air. i guess all it takes is for a couple of emotionally fraught events and it all just goes a bit silly.
Carnival comedowns?
Maybe not, then.

If I recall correctly, there's only two barber shops on Railton Road, one right up by Herne Hill Station, and one on the corner of Mumford Place, by the Hamilton, also at the Herne Hill end. And that part of the Railton was quiet yesterday evening. Are you *sure* you mean Railton Road, and not, for example, Atlantic Road?

From my kitchen window in Saltoun Road I saw literally dozens of police sprinting up Railton Road/Atlantic Road from the police station but really not sure what happened. Went on for a good half hour i'd say. There were loads of bystanders watching what was going on, and of course the usual "kids on bikes" making the police's job even more difficult by getting in the way of cars on purpose. Dunno if this was related to the RTA in Coldharbour.

what you'd have given for an air rifle at that moment, eh?
Thanks Nickster,
It's easy to forget that Atlantic Road continues across the crossroads with Coldharbour Lane, right up to the junction with Kellet Road, and the start of Bob Marley Way.
Here's a map (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?Postcode2Map?code=SW2+1EH).
Anyone know how the little girl is? :( :(
Some sports car twat today raced along on the wrong side of the road for 300m on Coldharbour because he took objection to the traffic queue in front of him.

Anyone know how the little girl is? :( :(I asked around today, but the answer seems to vary wildly from killed instantly, to recovering in hospital.

I asked around today, but the answer seems to vary wildly from killed instantly, to recovering in hospital.
Thankfully it seems to be the latter.
From this morning's South London Press (hard copy, apologies for my typos):
An eight year old girl was being treated in hospital after she was hit be a car on Wednesday night.
The girl, who has not been named, was crossing Coldharbour Lane in Brixton shortly after 6pm when she was hit.
An eye-witness, who did not want to be named, said: "Her father was crossing the road with another girl ahead of her and she stepped out after them and was hit."
She was being treated in King's College Hospital in Denmark Hill for head and leg injuries as we went to press
