View Full Version : Hive
there is a newish cafe/restaurant/bar opposite the brixton rec.
which i think is really really cool.
myself and eme met there earlier. we didn't taste any of the food (yet) but looks like a decent menue with lots of food around the £4 mark.
a coffee and juice cost £3. loads of newspapers. nice interior.
licensed. open until 3 am on the weekends.
outside sitting opportunity available on fairly car free lively brixton street.
eccentric staff.
good addition to the area in my eyes :)

eh? That's been there ages and ages and ages! There's even been at least one urban meet up there... (Spangles birthday I think it was - or somebody's birthday anyway before a PROD in the Canterbury Arms).
Or are there now two places by the Rec called Hive?
If it's the one I'm thinking of, I went there with my mum a few weeks ago and thought it was a bit crap to be honest. They have a 2-4-1 on cocktails between 6 and 8 - I asked if we could get one cocktail and one glass of wine and the waitress said yes. But when we got the bill they were charged separately. She said she had misunderstood and refused to take off the price of the wine. Also, we specifically went on a Tuesday - as the website says it's 2-4-1 on meals that night (we are cheapskates..:D ), but it turned out to be Monday night and there are only about 4 items, I think, 2 starters and 2 mains which are 2-4-1.
However, the meal I had, which was aubergine and goats cheese in a burger bun with chips was very nice indeed - and I think the waitress may have been new to the job.
BUT, the cocktails upstairs are very good.
oh dear!
so it is not new at all? (slightly embarrased now)
wonder how this could have escaped my eagle eyes for so long..? :p
i really like it. in fact i like all places with nice interior and plenty of newspapers. i will be there more often now.
