Tyre place (old Elf Petrol Station) on Brixton Hill

Heard a little rumour this may end up as flats with a Tesco underneath.

Anyone know anything about this?

Sure it wasn't for flats on the old show room plot on the corner of New Park Road and Atkins road?
I walked past there last night and there is huge boards with pictures of flats with Tescos and Carphone Warehouse underneath!!!

No, I KNOW that one is going to be flats and Tesco, but the person who said about Brixton Hill is aware of the NPR one. Maybe whoever told him was actually telling him about New Park Road :confused:

Hmm maybe it's both places, but it'd be strange for them to put two Tesco Metros that close together right?

Although that's never stopped a fried chicken place opening next to another fried chicken place.

I've no idea how to use these planning application sites but I've just had my first go.

Found this (although it mentions petrol station rather than tyre place or whatever it's called)

Demolition of the existing petrol station and erection of a new part 5 and part 6 storey building containing 25 self contained units and 2 commercial units (Class A1/B1) at ground floor level including provision of 6 parking spaces plus cycle parking and associated alterations.

IMO Brixton needs a planning watchdog group like the one in waterloo http://www.wcdg.org.uk/ which lets people find out about and influence planning applications.

Otherwise people only find out about this kind of thing when the buldozers turn up (e.g. the Queen)

there's already a tesco metro on tulse hill and a big one on acre lane. surely the area can't take 4 tescos?!it bet it could take 4 tesco's... that's the saddest thing. i reckon that soon all 'local shops' will be tesco metro, sainsbury's local or the like :(

it's kind of like the starbucks tactic - move in loads of stores close together in the same area, put all the little businesses out of business by undercutting them using economies of scale, then mop up all the excess trade afterwards :( :mad:

You have just as much ability as me to look things up on that site, and just as much right to complain to Lambeth Planning when they fill it with jargon rather than plain english - "units" rather than "flats" :mad:

It looks like that application was turned down by planning officers on 28 April - as it didn't get as far as planning committee, I assume it must have been contrary to some fairly major planning policy. :confused:

Don't know if the developers will appeal to the newfangled Department for Communities and Local Government, which has replaced John Prescott's ODPM empire.

If you search for properties by address, you can then use the "related info" tab to find all planning applications within a 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200 metre radius - useful if you want to keep an eye on everything in your neighbourhood.

There was another application last year that was also refused in November.

BTW It looks as though the tyre centre has been operating without planning consent - an application (05/02347/FUL) for change of use from a petrol station to a tyre retailer and fitting centre submitted last July was only "validated" in February - presumably some key documents were missing. This was also turned down by the planners on 20 April.
