A place to Exhibit
If you know New Park Road Baptist Church New Park Road London SW2, you might know the caged passage way/Garden at the side of it. Informally this was given to Clapham Park Time bank to regenerate. I was feeling with this work shop we could possibly do a “found and recycled sculpture garden” here. Clapham Park Time bank has got a very active gardening group and now we are starting the arts and craft project it would be great to team up and get some thing done here. Is any one interested?

There is a gardening team and a very good over 50's group. There is a womans group too. The members say what groups they want and it is up to them to sort things out with the help of a facilitator.
I have set up a yahoo group
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Clapham_Park_Timebank/
please join this
If I am allowed i will try and post more stuff here
Anyone can join a Time Bank and offer their time and skills in exchange for those of other members. Activities can be anything people might need and range from gardening to music lessons or a member giving someone a lift in their car and all time given is equally valued. Some other Time Banking activities might include; neighbourhood renewal and environmental clean ups, community safety, health, DIY and involving older people as active citizens.

I would like to explain some thing here and if I am not allowed to post about the free things that time bank do i will stop
I hope my posts have not upset any one here

What is a time bank?

Time bank is a bank that is open to everyone because it deals with a currency we all have; time. Time bank works by recording the time you spend helping other people in your neighbourhood out, and when you need help you can use the saved time to get help from other people in the area, most often different ones than the ones you helped.

This way time bank rewards the time people spend building networks and encourages and contributes to the building of community by linking people up.

One of the main principles of the time bank is equality; one hour of help equals one time credit, whether the task is babysitting, DIY work or befriending. This is also one of the areas where time bank differs from schemes like LETS, (Local Exchange Trade Scheme).

Another main principle in the time bank is that everybody has something to give, and everybody therefore participates in the time bank as a giver and a receiver.

So what can I do for the time bank?
The tasks people do within the time bank vary. Mainly people do what they enjoy doing like gardening, befriending, babysitting, DIY work, baking cakes, teaching music, dance or language or help organise social events.

Time Bank is for all age groups. Some time banks run peer tutoring schemes, where young people help other young people with their homework, teach them about computers or make a basket ball team.

Other time banks link up young and elderly people, where young people help the elderly with their daily chores and in return the elderly teach skills to the young people.

How do I become a participant?
Unlike ordinary banks you don’t need to have a proof of address, a passport or a high income to become a participant of a time bank. All you need is a little time to spare and something you would like to use the time bank for. Contact your local time bank broker who will meet you for a chat about time bank and how you would like to participate.

Some time banks take up references in order to make it a safe activity for everybody to participate in. But unlike references for jobs, references for the time bank can come from a local community member, or someone who knows you well. Don’t let the word reference put you off, talk to your local time bank broker who can help you with ideas on who to get a reference from.

Does time bank affect my benefits?
NO! The government has ruled (August 2000) that earning time credits will not affect entitlement to benefits. However there is a law that says people on benefits cannot volunteer for more than 16 hours a week. To be on the safe side, if you are on benefits tell your social worker that you have joined the time bank and what activities you are likely to do within the time bank.

Do I have to pay tax on my time credits?
NO! The government has ruled (August 1999) that time credits are not taxable. They are a way of recognising the time and effort people put into their local community.

Is there any other time banks?

There are about 100 time banks in the UK, of which 20 are based in London and more are being developed. Some are based at schools, one at a local GP’s surgery, and some at local community centres. Some have DIY schemes, one has a basket ball team, one runs a community café, three schools in London are working on a peer tutoring project where pupils get a refurbished computer for tutoring other children.

The time banks in London have created a network London Time Bank for mutual support and exchange of ideas and hope to be able to exchange time on a proper time bank scale within the near future.

Where can I find more information?

To find out if there is a time bank near you call Claire Navaie at London Time Bank, see contact details below. She will put you in contact with the time bank broker from the time bank nearest to you.

You can also set up a time bank yourself. To get started all it takes is a small group of people, 4-6, who are willing to give time to each other.
