How are Time Banks run?
Each Time Bank has a Time Broker, who promotes Time Banking in their area. They recruit new members and arrange activities and events to reach out to local groups, business and organizations. When new members join a Time Bank, they identify the talents and skills that they can offer to other members and the help that they would like to receive in return. These services can be added to or withdrawn at any time. 'Timekeeper' software is used to record all transactions between Time Bank members, providing details on the number of hours exchanged. Each Time Bank Sponsor supports the development of their respective Time Bank and provides resources for the Time Broker

I am very keen to promote the events that are monetarily free for every one. From the FAQ:

No advertising of any kind. We are not interested in hearing about your company/website/club/product/new song/gig/glowing rave underpants. This is a non-profit, community discussion forum, not a free advertising resource and offenders will be given a spanked botty. Adverts for gigs/events/parties are not allowed unless cleared beforehand by the admin team (PM with your request).

What is the problem?

As Goddessriki says the events are free so therefore nobody is presumably making any profit.

Anyway, why can't you just delete the thread, send Goddessriki and email/PM him/her explaining why it has been deleted?

Or maybe you want all of us to admire your scolding a naughty poster?

Or maybe you want all of us to admire your scolding a naughty poster?I've politely reproduced the FAQ - which he/she should have read in the first place - explaining the policy here. That policy invites her to PM a mod in future.

Perhaps in your haste to try and sock it to the Man you completely failed to notice that I've left all the links in the original posts. What is the problem? Perhaps you should read the FAQ too.

And no, I haven't got time to start sending off personal PMs to people when a post here will do just fine.

It seems i have done something wrong
Time Bank is totally non profit making we exchange no money what so ever
How do time banks work? Join up to your local time bank and for every hour you spend :) helping:) someone out, you will earn a time credit (NOT MONEY). Everyone's time is valued equally and one hour always equals one time credit. You can draw on your time credits when you need something done - attend a yoga class, want your gate fixed etc. or you can choose to donate your credits to someone else or a local community organisation. Anyone can join a time bank, it's free to join and taking part does not affect your tax position or your entitlement to state benefits. At the heart of time banking is the belief in "give and take" everyone becomes both a giver and a receiver of time. I joined Clapham Park time bank by getting in contact with Funmi Olowe Address: 13a Mudie House Forster Road Clapham Park Estate London Tel: 020 8671 4809 Email: funmi.olowe@slam.nhs.uk

These spamming cuntmonkeys have just spammed my private e-mail address

My name is Erica and I am a member of Clapham Park Timebank,
I saw your profile on yahoo and thought you might like to join Clapham Park Timebank yahoo group. If you don’t know about time bank it’s about people using time as a bankable commodity and not using cash. Time banks are being established in communities across the country, bringing people together and improving the quality of people’s lives. In a world where families are increasingly fragmented and traditional communities disappearing, they enable people from all backgrounds to come together, sharing their experiences and skills. People, who might previously have felt isolated or marginalized in society, can begin to feel more involved with and valued by those living around them, increasing the sense of local community. So even if you are not any where near Clapham Park you might just like to stop here a little and find out about time banks.
Join this group and find out more

I googled their name to find out what the fuck that gibberish speil was all about, and low and behold what do I find as the top result, but this link to urban.

Trust me, you don't want to see me bellydancing.

Oh and just for your information, send me one more unsolicited e-mail, and I will personally be lobbing an unsolicited tin of spam through one of your windows.

Time banks are well interesting. You can read more about the various London Timebanks here (http://www.londontimebank.org.uk/index2.htm).

Seems the Clapham Park Estate time bank is just starting. I wish them the best of luck. My favourite project, the Lambeth Savings and Credit Union (http://www.lscu.org.uk/) also came out of the Clapham Park Estate.

These boards are not here for you to endlessly plug and promote your pet personal projects, no matter how worthy. They are discussion boards.
I suggest you create your own web page and post up the information there. You can then add that link to your profile.

There are instructions on how to build a site cheaply here:

Report on CP Festival
1st July 2006

Venue Agnes Riley Park
Shared Marquee
Table and chairs provided by Clapham Park Project

7 Clapham Park Time Bank members represented the time bank.
They set up the table with information, banners, and tombola.
Time 1.30 / 5.30pm

Information Leaflets about the time bank were given out during the day’s events.

Erica furnished the stall with tombola gifts all made from recycled items. These included gift in a bottle, gift bags, activity boxes, teddies, dolls and cosmetics.

Gift in a bottle was made by using empty mineral water bottles, cutting out a back panel, filling with goodies and sticking the back back with a time bank card covering the slit in the back of the bottle.
Gift bags were made from collecting the paper bags from the recycling centre and filled with small paper items and things to make.
Activity boxes were made from using recycled square containers into these boxes were put pieces of leather, buttons, picture cards glitter and various coloured card.
The teddies, dolls and cosmetics were also picked from the recycling centre Work & Play in Tooting South London.

The day went very well and the time bank members shared the responsibilities and activities. 6 TB Members earned 35 credits between them for leafleting, belly dancing and running the tombola stall.

One of our members won a raffle prize. Eysen won second prize (Digital radio) from the festival raffle.
The belly dancing group put on a wonderful show at the end of the day
And last but not least The Tom bola stall made a grand total of £ 140.00

Why? It's been a word that's been around for over 1000 years. As a woman I don't find it insulting in the slightest.

I don't like the fact that (arguably) the worst possible insult that someone can use is a word that also means vagina. It seems demeaning to women. Prick, dick, knob, cock (etc) are mild (almost friendly and affectionate!) in comparison.

Aye, it's the unintentionally funny but slightly unedfying result of a couple of spamming chuffmunches, no matter how well-intended, reporting back on their blinking timebank at every opportunity. It's like Smashy and Nicey talking to themselves, only without the intentional humour.

I suspect they're putting more people off the idea of the timebank through their untargeted spams and dull write-ups than they're attracting.

Oh please. Ten years ago and it might have sounded vicious, but cunt's virtually getting to be the default, bum-standard insult now. It's almost said affectionately at times - there's even a local band called The Cunts (Larry Love spinoff) who play around with the jokey associations of the word. Who wants to be the 'daft c...' for example.

I'd wager that words like 'Scrote' now come with far more negative connotations now, with little of the ambivalence of the word cunt. And by your simplistic gender politics insult-a-grading I suppose that's oppressing and belittling men via their testicles. Or something.

You're welcome to your opinion of course, but I fundamentally disagree - context is everything in this case. And I don't think this thread was perhaps the right one to pontificate on either.

Of course they are! The point was that, if the word "cunt" bandied about as an insult (as well as a term of endearment, for general comedy value and indeed in reference to an actual, real vagina on rare occasions) offends you, you will probably find yourself in a perpetually offended state whilst perusing these boards.

You Cunt.

But a word is only offensive to those who get offended by it. By getting so offended by it you are reinforcing the fact that it is the most offensive word.

That doesn't make it any sense. So you think it's 'the worst possible insult,' but it's a great word as well

Unless you've a habit of speaking like a Readers' letter in a top shelf publication, what other context do you use 'cunt' in then?
