I really like the rookery at the top of streatham common, obv part of the grounds of what was once a massive stately house. On christmas morning two years ago went for a walk with my mum and my daughter up there. There was an old guy drinking brew but in some sort of christmas spirit he was tipping it into a plastic glass and toasting the sun (it was a crispy bright morning)...made and still makes me smile.

Dunno about beautiful, what with the A23 going tghrough it, but the Common is nice and there's plenty of shops, plus good transport links. And it's cheaper to live there than some surrouding areas.

Not just Streatham (although especially so there) but also in Norwood/Tulse Hill and also in the convenience stores near the Hobgoblin, you'll notice posters in windows advertising Polish food. The language is close enough to Croatian that gaijinboy can understand the posters... something about "you can buy delicious/good Polish food here". And certainly in my local they have a small shelf of Polish goods.

I like Streatham too. However, I remember watching one of those 're-location, re-location' type programmes a while back and one of the couples were moving away from Streatham. During the course of the programme they announced that Streatham High Road is the most violent high road in England...? Is this true? I have to say that the only time I have seen anyone being mugged was on this very road. Usually, though, I feel less stressed on a trip to Streatham than I do to our very own Brixton. Oh, I don't know what to think anymore...!

I wouldn't trust a location programme to be correct on crime stats. If you're especially interested, you can look at crime figures for most boroughs on the met's website, not sure they break it down any further than that ... but if you were concerned, the local police could easily tell you if it's a trouble spot. 'Most violent in England' is a fair call though, I'd be surprised, tbh.

It's a very long road isn't it? It might have the most violence on the road as a whole, spread out over a bigger length.

I'm sure Leicester Square is the most viokent spot in London though.
