Finally decided I needed to shift all this weight I've put on over the years. I'm on a calorie controlled diet. But, the lack of exercise is spoiling it. I used to love swimming when I was younger. As swimming is one of the best forms of excercise you can get, I would love to start again. BUT, the thought of people laughing at me in my cossie is putting me off. Does anyone know the quietess times to go? Was thinking of going really early at 7am when it opens. It SHOULD be quiet. Any thoughts plz?

Do they still have women-only sessions?

Women only sessions are Sunday at 6 and Monday at 7, unless they've changed them. I haven't been for ages though, have they finally fixed the heater?

Oh, and honestly nobody is going to give a toss what you look like in your swimsuit.:)

Tends to be busy between 7am - 7.30 am with the commuter crowd. It then eases up during the morning.

2-3 is a lovely time as well.

But seriously... you will see some sights in there and so don't be too concerned about self image :)

easy to say - but i've had nasty comments in public pools. and that's with me avoiding times when teenagers will be there.

You have to decide to ignore it, or decide to let it put you off.

It's nice in the evenings. After about 8.30pm. Monday busy, but gets much quieter from then on in.

hi

i tried to lose weight and get fit a few years ago and i forced myself to do 100 lengths at the rec every week. It worked really well, because i went in the morning (7-730 ish) and after 25 lengths I was then having to play psychlogical game about whether to leave now (but have to come four times a week) or to do 8 more lenghts (and then only have to come three times a week). It worked marvellously. The 100 per week discipline forced me to go regularly, get fit and i felt better all round as a result of it.

The best times to go are in the evenings. The Brixton Rec has 3 lanes -fast,medium,slow as well as the rest of the pool for messing around in.Its best not to go when there are lessons as this means everyone else is squashed up to one side of the pool.

To be honest the Brixton Rec pool is big enough to mean that everyone from Olympic style swimmers to the unfit can get along.Ive never had any trouble there. Most people seem to respect other peoples space.Ive seen alll sorts there.
