View Full Version : Recommend a GP in Brixton/Herne Hill?
I need to get registered with a GP once I move to the area – does anyone have any recommendations of decent surgeries in the SW9/SE24 area? Thanks...
I'd reccommend the Brixton Hill practise... it's very busy but they're always helpful and quite good in there.
I recommend Herne Hill group practise on Herne Hill, entrance on Kestrel Ave. The receptionists are shit but most of the doctors and nurses are lovely.
The receptionists are shit
Aren't they always, though?
Thanks for the suggestions...
I just did a Google search on that practice and came up with an old thread that looks promising:

there is a gp surgery in kestrell avenue i can highly recommended.
same day appt nearly always available.
i always ask for a female doctor as i find i get better treatment with them, but that is maybe because i can deal better with woman in general.

Another vote for Kestral Ave/Herne Hill Surgery here!

I agree. A couple of months ago I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment at Pavilion Practice! Needless to say, I'm gonna switch to another GP.

Classical example of the consumerist society, wanting an appointment in a reasonable time to suit you. Don't you realise that Doctors have better things to do than respond to the ill-informed requirements of patients; for heavens sake, if they did they would be pandering to the neo-liberal market-led reforms of the NHS.
Or maybe they were too busy adding up their GMS points, pondering the implications of practice-based commissioning or figuring out how to un-bundle PbR to get their hand on even more extra cash.
Whatever, trebles all round for our GPs!
ps Brixton Hill group practice is very good, and (suprisingly for general practice) has some pretty good paeds expertise; even more amazingly, they also know when they are at the limit of their experience, and are ready to consult the paed SpR/consultant at King's if necessary.

The Streatham Place surgery is very good with friendly male and female doctors, I would definately recommend them. You can find links to finding your local GP practises, there map locations, distance in lies from your house and their telephone numbers by following the links through the NHS Direct website (just google it if you dont know it). Definately worth doing as not all practises are in the field of taking on new patients- their quota is full. You can also use this link for dentists in the area.

I would NOT recommend them at all. My b/f's with them
Just registered here: http://www.hernehillroadgp.co.uk/ - at least it's only around the corner and they seem friendly / professional enough...

^^^ me, Mrs elvis and the kids are with them. have to say they've always been excellent, and we've thrown some pretty nasty / specialist requirements at them. like everywhere else you have to wait for an appointment sometimes and one of the receptionists is a bit rude, but you can always book your appointment online

I've been with them for ages and they're excellent -- especially Dr Arora. Hendo was treated by him recently and he was a complete star.

I've only dealt with the receptionists so far but they've been helpful, which looks like a good sign.
