Hi Urbanites,

My mum and nana are coming down to visit from Leeds next weekend and I need to take them out somewhere for Sunday lunch - can anyone recommend a decent place in or around Brixton? I know Dogstar do a great chilli/chocolate thing but my nana's tastes are a little more prosaic so I'm after the bog standard roast beef/Yorkshire puddings!

Thanks

Charlie

Someone suggested the Prince regent on Dulwich road and I say go for a nice walk to leafy Dulwich n try the Crown &Greyhoud. excellent roast n great for families!

Why don't you just cook something yourself?

If you can be bothered to head towards Camberwell, the Sun and Doves on Coldharbour Lane does splendid food. It's only a short bus ride on the 345/35/45

SO WHAT if there have already been threads - a new one isn't going to hurt any, is it?

Anyway, I'd suggest The Windmill on Clapham Common.

I believe Babalou does an evening roast (starting at 5pm) but I have no idea what it's like.

When we checked it out a few weeks ago, it didn't look that great. The beef looked grey and over-cooked, the spuds deep fried and the yorkshires factory made. I'm not a great fan of Carveries...

For a couple of quid more, the Palmerston where we ended up knocks spots off it. Everything was cooked from scratch and it was absolutely delicious. The beef was pink and the yorkshires were proper - about 4 inches high, crispy on top and soft on the bottom like a good yorkshire should be.

They seem to be cool with kids too. Apparantly, we were lucky to get a table on spec, word is you need to book.

Ganley's House of Leprechaunosity isn't too bad actually. Opposite Brockwell Park in Herne Hill.

More appropriate than its real name I feel.

Although not as good as 'The Brockwell Park Tavern.':(
