Just in case anyone forgets, and inspired by Brixton Hatters excellent rant on the Green fair thread, thought it might be worth doing a last minute list of reasons why the current incumbents at the town hall need changing...

Well, there's the ridiculous new fencing rules concerning festivals in Brockwell Park for one, leading to the cancellation of above fair...
The banning of the much loved cannabis festival,
The travesty and loss of St. Agnes place,
The re-structuring of Lambeth housing (dis)services (re-locating neighbourhood housing offices away from neighbourhoods),
and the joke that was the 'one call, does it all' phone line....
The threat that currently hangs over the leisure centers...
Tate gardens...destroying and removing our fountain and replacing it with, concrete wasteland

Urm...Anyone got any more..?

How could I forget all that Fitchett business?

...three million pounds that was supposed to be for council housing repairs has been embezzled. LibDem Councillor Fitchett was responsible for this but refused to resign and kept taking inflated wages as he “does a lot of extra work"...

I'm voting for a Labour candidate called Steve Reed, purely because he's been a blooming fantastic councillor, and endlessly patient and helpful with problems I've had. Might not usually vote Labour but will make exception in his case! :)

This is the first election where I've actually read all the main parties' manifestos as I've been really unsure about who to vote for. I was planning on voting Green but I couldn't find anything in their manifesto about tackling crime. Living in central Brixton this is kind of a high priority for me! So in the end I didn't vote for them. Please, any Greens out there correct me if I've got it wrong.

We had a power cut on the road the jessops school polling station was last night - maybe that's why Herne Hill was still being counted. The street lights still worked so they had to take the polling station outside. It was quite bizarre. I took a pic of it (no one got anry with me for taking pics of a polling station)

The election of councillors in Herne Hill is subject to a recount, which is expected to be declared today.

Looks like it's an actual recount.

I didn't vote.

I couldn't find where to vote on the lambeth website. I couldn't get through to Lambeth Electoral dept and on the way home from work there were no flyers or sign posts or anything.

To be honest I wasn't prepared to put much more effort than that into finding the polling station.

Quite a remarkable result which looks to buck the national and London trend.

My guess would be that the Lib Dems have paid a price for coalition with the Conservatives. Labour lost 15 seats last time (if I recall correrectly). A lot of those would have been traditional Labour voters who decided to give Labour a kick and then were horrified to find they'd let the Conservatives (and specifically some of the 'characters' in Lambeth Conservatives) into office.

This time round they've taken no chances.

The turnout looks to be up too.

Needless to say: Commiserations and congratulations, as appropriate, to those Urban75 posters 'directly' affected!

Just glanced at Sky News, and there was Tessa Jowell beaming in Herne Hill, expressing regret about Charles Clarke (and secretly offering thanks for her own hide) like she had anything to do with Labour taking back the borough.

Posted by jpm in the other thread ("Labour gain Lambeth") at 2:35 pm :

Looked at the count as if Kirsty McHugh (Lab) was top, Jim Dickson (Lab) second apparently a handful of votes ahead of Rebecca Thackray (Green) who was just in front of Shane Collins. So recount for second and third, likely to end up as written.

Health Warning : Above is NOT authoritative. And is out of date by now.

slow and steady wins the race Will. Everywhere I've bothered looking Greens have been quietly building their vote over the past few years. Take a look at Lewisham to see what happenes when one good Green gets elected to the council - last night Darren Johnson got five more councillors to keep him company in the town hall :)

There's Green breakthroughs all over London now and plenty more around the country. If past performance is anything to go by they'll maintain their foothold and win more seats in the future :)

Congrats to Shane on geting so close, but it's still a shame to miss out so narrowly, and with him being a friend of ours and all, I was looking out for his result particularly.

Absofuckinglutely. So refreshing to know my vote counted for something more than a token gesture for once. Looks like it was a fantastic turnout in Herne Hill ward too and massive support for the greens generally. Unlucky for Shane but looking at the results, reckon we can return 3 Green Councillors for the ward next time!
