According to the SLP, they have had their licence removed and will need to reapply. At a guess it will end up like the new George IV licence i.e. reduced opening hours with extra security.

yes, when the police raided it they utterly trashed the place hence the "refurb".
It's code for "we got raided and are under threat of closure but refurbishment sounds better" ;)
sorry about not seeing the old thread. i've been away... goes off to do a search.

Apparently the police requested a 2.00am licence so the council have granted them a 4.00am licence - or so I heard

The bust on 15th was followed by a court hearing on Thursday 20th; the Fridge was allowed to stay open until that hearing.
The court demanded that the club makes 'infrastructural changes' (whatever that means), and ordered that it be closed for 14 days (ie until 4th May) while this is done.
So it's up to the courts what happens next.........
(btw - re reliability of this info - my source = the promoter whose night was on when it was busted, and had another one last weekend which he had to move to another club owing to the closure)

Do you happen to know what's up with the George 4's hours as well? Not that I'm interested in taking a trip down (a misty crusty-encrusted) trip down memory lane, but it'd be a shame to think that the spanner-headed institution would no longer be open in the wee hours...

That's what I WAS talking about, George IV's hours. Police wanted 2.00am, council gave them 4.00am
Sorry for the confusion :D
so is the george back in business?

Yep. There were folk outside last w/e. Unless, that is, they got wasted elsewhere and came to sit outside the George 4 in the early hours of the morning for old time's sake...

Geez,
The fridge management has a lot to do to abide by the police report then!
Prices will have to go up to pay for it all. Wonder if they will decide its not worth the bother.
:(
There certainly are a lot of conditions. But at least they haven't fucked up their opening hours like with George IV.

I wonder how one could apply to be one of the 'mystery clubbers' that shall be venturing on down to the George!

Yes, I wonder.
Usually there isn't much "mystery" about these people.
They are the ones standing around on their own, who don't know anyone, and yet sidle up to everyone in turn and ask them if they "know where they can get any pills, mate" and yet never look sufficiently mashed the whole time they are there.

In regards to the George...
Was there for their reopening night (the Techno Sessions party), and was a bit shocked to be honest. Hadn't heard about the stabbing prior to this and only found out after chatting to some of the staff there. It's taken a pretty serious blow to be honest, think there must've only been about 30 people there all night.
Got a properly thorough 3 or 4 minute search on entry, checking quite literally everything they can get away with by 2 door csecurity. Then got told that there is no readmittance, and that security won't even let you go outside to get some fresh air or to make a phone call if you want to get back in.
Inside, they must've had at least another 3 security, 1 set up in the bar, 1 on the dancefloor and 1 checking the toilets, etc. Another let down was the fact that the night had been billed to go on till 6am, so Chris Liberator couldn't play since he had the last 2-hour slot.
Despite all of that though, a really good night was had, but i can't help but feel i'm not gonna be rushing back for thursday night techno antics in the future like i used to. Bit of a shame really, although a couple of the staff i spoke to did say they're still actively contesting the early closing time, so i suppose maybe there's still some hope.
It's going to kill the place completely if they keep that up.
And in the summer, one of the best things about the George is being able to be outside - if that is taken away it will put a lot of people off.
Giles..
