It's probably not very shocking news to a number of posters here, but this is my first experience with them.
I phoned them up with a minor query about my council tax bill (why I don't seem to have been DDed for the last couple of months) and I got through after twenty minutes of waiting to be told by an operative that they couldn't take my call but could call me back. I said that they'd already taken my call and that my query would take the same amount of time to sort out as them taking my details. They said I'd got through to the overflow line, so it looks like they pay people to tell us that they haven't got time to deal with them. Isn't that absurd?
They took my details and said they'd call back within 48 hours - 48 HOURS!
I won't be holding my breath.

NB - my local council takes council tax in 10 installments, so you get two months off.

Reckon that could be the case with you?

(shit service though)

I've got a good one - we bought a place in Lambeth in mid-November but it had to be renovated so we got an exemption running to Jan 1st when it would be reviewed. Cool.

After calling Lambeth in mid-decmeber to let them know the work will be completed mid-Feb, they send us another form and we fill it in. Then we hear nothing. So the move in date on the form (20/02) comes and goes and we move in as planned on that date.

Mail re-direction took a while and we get a letter dated 9th March we're being taken to court for CT non-payment between 1st Jan and the end of Feb. So I call them up and explain it....and all I get is "oh right, sorry, we don't usually look at the date on exemption forms, especially when a new tax year begins"

So what's the bloody point of getting the exemption or indeed making me fill out forms to get it, or even sendign me the letter for non-payment of non-existent Council Tax?

I hate Lambeth Council...oh but at least the tax hasn't gone up in 2006 (until next year when we get an inflation busting one no doubt  )

I got through to the same thing. They never called me back

Only advice I'd give is keep trying til get you get to speak to someone. Once I did, they were actually really efficient :)

I'm with Lambeth, and my first ever bill with them a month or so ago came in 10 installments too.

Agreed on the ridiculous-ness of it all though Orang. It took me several goes to even set up my council tax bill and being told several times how people would get back to me etc etc

Doubt it, the calls probably overflow to another department who can deal with some queries but not others. Happens all the time where I work.

Agree that it's ludicrous (I feel stupid saying 'I can't help you, yes I know it's daft that the call comes through to me when I can do sod all but there's nothing I can do about it. Can I take your details?') but I doubt it's people getting paid just to say that.

to add insult to injury, Lambeth have forced the cancellation of the planned urban green fair in june. They were demanding a fence with patrolled gates , other events have also backed down.

CUNTS :(

Confirmation please. Source??

This is BEFORE the Elections,

Any chance of getting this twatbrained 'decision' reversed, after the election?

Can it be relocated?? (Southwark??)

Does the same apply to the Lambeth Country Show?? ("other events"?? )

Was it Councillors, the Police or Lambeth Council permanent officers who made this decision??

I'm about to start another thread on the Brixton Forum. Bear with me please.

This is exactly what they did to that festy last summer that I helped steward at (I think quite a few people on here know the people who ran it)! They paid for the stupid gates, fences etc at a huge loss to the charity cause....

WTF is going on?

Is this for real... I'll be MOST upset if it's true....

  :(

New thread dedicated to the Urban Green Fair rumoured SCANDAL, now started on the Brixton Forum, please add to that!

Common or Garden Lambeth shittiness can continue to be discussed here :p but the possible Festival cancellation is a much bigger scandal, worthy of a thread of its own.
