View Full Version : Bottled in brixton

I was cycling home down Coldharbour lane last night at around half ten. Just as I was going past the petrol station I noticed a group of ladz outside one of the convenience stores. Out of nowhere a bottle came flying towards me. It bounced off my foot with some force - luckily I was wearing ankle boots so I hardly flinched. I was too tired to do anything about it last night.

Is there any CCTV around that area?

Sorry to hear that citydreams.
Sounds like it's exactly the same spot editor keeps reporting all that trouble occurring.

PLEASE ring the police and report this. There is CCTV in the area but I'm sure they'll have no trouble whatsoever working out who's responsible.

That road sucks sometimes, sorry to hear about your bottle incident.
I was chased once (on my bike) from the Camberwell end of CHL to just under the bridge at Loughborough Junction by a bunch of kids on bikes, luckily i am way faster than the average kid on a shit bike.

Well, I tried calling the Coldharbour Lane Safer nieghbourhoods number as found here (http://www.met.police.uk/lambeth/saferneighbourhoods.htm#00AYGD) but the phone number doesn't work!

Got through to Brixton police control room after a half hour's wait to be told I need to come down to the station to report it.

I dont think there is a safer neighbourhoods team for Coldhabour - it comes under a town centre team instead. You could try taking a trip to the Beat on CHL if it's open.

I was bike nabbed (while I was on it) and stabbed in stockell, and a few years before I was beaten within an inch of my life on coldharbour lane.

i'm sure there is a safer neighbourhoods team for coldharbour lane ward. they were at the door at nu-urban towers giving us some invisible marking stuff so that if our things got stolen they were marked. i didn't have the heart to tell them that everything of value in the house was stolen three days earlier.

I got whacked on the side of my head with a bottle on Saturday. Outside my house. Luckily I sidestepped quickly enough for it to do any damage.
I wouldn't give this fella any money (I never reach into my pockets on the street, it's too risky) and he didn't like my answer.
I reported it cos it looked like he was hanging round, intimidating shoppers into giving him cash and I didn't want him scaring anyone else who might be more easily intimiated.

Glad you're ok, and that it was only your foot (I mean that's bad enough, but you know what I mean).

You could have made the second one rhyme! "stabbed in stockwell, coshed on coldharbour" has a ring to it.

Sorry, I'll shut up now.

Having checked the site, they do not accept assault reports (and this would be a report of common assault) over the internet.

Reporting in person I would strongly advise a "strange" time (i.e. before about 7.30am (on way to work?); after about 10pm (i.e. after night out, but maybe not if much alcohol, etc. consumed!!)) or mid-morning or mid-afternoon. The actual report will take about 20 mins at most, it's the waiting time ...

Perhaps just drop in when passing and if there are more than one or two people waiting, give up and come back another time!

Alternatively, stick it all down in writing (time / date / place / descriptions (you and suspects if any) / mention possible CCTV) and say you don't want to report it as a "crime" as such but as an instance of anti-social behaviour which you would just like the police to know about to have a full picture of what is going on. Post to Chief Supt Bridger at Brixton Police Station!

When I got threatened and chased by a gang of kids I told some passing police (when I stopped the police car the kids ran off) the response of the police was 'they are only kids'. The fact that there were 6 of them and all bigger than me didn't seem to make any difference to the police.

I found them very threatening, I had stupidly intervened in the 6 kids trying to beat up a much smaller child outside my house.

They told me to fuck off, mind my own business, told me they knew where I lived and they would come into my house and make me pay if I didn't fuck off.

As they got more physically threatening I retreated only for them to follow me onto Coldharbour Lane and chased me up the road, only retreating when I stopped the police car.

there are some really nasty little tikes who live on the moorlands estate and terrorise passers-by whenever they're bored. i saw about a half a dozen of them launching fireworks at the corner shop opposite the petrol station back in october. fucking dangerous it was - people ran for cover!
they're often on bikes with their faces covered

Saw a kid going into Big Bite on CHL the other day, take some bottles, come out and then lob them over the road.

What the fuck could this be all about?

thats the ones i was talking about,at about 10pm last night there was about 30 of themi remember some research or something a few years ago that was saying that anti-social behaviour (can't believe i'm saying that fucking phrase, it's so fucking new labour  ) in a local area is often the work of just one or two small bunches of kids, fucking about all the time and causing a nuisance. from what i've seen in the various places i've lived, that's probably true (indeed i probably was one of them myself aged about 12 :o i was naughty though, not bad :D ) it's always easy to blame "the kids from the estate" though..

A bad week then. Sorry to hear it guys. :(

Those kids seem to have appeared from nowhere about a month ago - their main haunt seems to be around those shops. Individually they're completely unthreatening since they're small scrawny teenagers - as a group quite scary.

I got an email reply from Inspector Low about the problem of this gang saying he had passed on my concerns to the Brixton town centre officers. He has been really helpful in the past, so fingers crossed something gets down.

when I used to work as a gardener/park keeper off the harrow road, you had to work in pair in summer just in case.
