Just heard about this but no idea where/why/what's going on. Anyone know more?
why does it always happen the night before I'm meant to travel? :(
I just checked BBC London. This is what it said:
A204 TULSE HILL
BRIXTON
SOUTHBOUND AT A2214 BRIXTON WATER LANE / BRIXTON WATER LANE EARLIER FIRE, ROAD RE-OPENED
SOURCE : TRANSPORT FOR LONDON.

Yes.. it's my local newsagent -actually on Tulse Hill just by where it meets Brixton Water Lane, round the corner from Khans :( the one right in front of the bus-stop just after the Hobgoblin (next to Baba's chemist). We just went down there and the owners were still cleaning up. We asked them what happened but they said they didn't know. :(
There is an extra temporary bus stop just up the road outside the costcutter - although it doesn't seem clear whether or not they've closed the normal one..

Yes I do... :D I am currently experiencing some of that feeling myself as gaijinboy is going to Oz in just under an hour and hasn't packed yet... in fact we've only just washed his clothes and all the radiators are on as we desperately try to get things dry in time... :D
I am taking refuge in the internet - trying to look busy... :o

Bugger, why does it always have to be places like local newsagents that suffer? Can't we have a Pret or a Superdrug catch fire? At least they can afford to deal with it.
I feel so bad last night I saw some guys go at an off licence with a crowbar but I couldn't call the police cos otherwise I'd have probably got the crowbar round my head :( And I wasn't even close enough to be able to call the police later with descriptions of em :( I just felt so bad on behalf of the store owner :(

So you weren't close enough to see them properly, but still too close to make a phonecall ??
sorry, but sounds like a cop-out to me.
Couldn't you have just walked down the road a bit at least, and then call the fuzz ?

To be fair to Waverunner... I was in exactly this situation on NYE last year. I walked within 5 metres of a gang of boys breaking into a shop. They had hoods up and when I looked at them they looked back really quite threateningly - it is really scary.
I waited until I was out of their range and called the police - but I was concerned they might be following me. The police took my name and number but I never ever heard back from them - I've no idea if they caught them or not. I couldn't really have identified them then, but I certainly couldn't now.. I don't remember.

Yeah perhaps it was but I wasn't the only one that could see them doing it. I could see they were wearing black clothes, caps/hoodies. I figured if no one else was doing anything and I called, if something happened to me no one would fucking help me. I was in a suit and high heels, tipsy, alone past midnight. I just didn't feel safe.

If I'd been in a familiar area I probably would have, but seeing as I was somewhere I've never been before I didn't want to walk straight down the street (I'd still be visible) but I also didn't want to suddenly stop, turn around, then turn a corner. I don't know the backstreets round there.

Overheard in a shop in the same parade a few minutes ago..
gossip on the street - so not necessarily true but..
apparently someone threw a firebomb into the shop through the door and a customer was injured!!!

E2A: Should I have done differently? I was quite scared tbh.
I was confused on the same basis as RaverDrew. I quite agree that you should have done anything which showed out to them that you were, or may be, calling the police. It's just that (presumably) at some point any such fears no longer applied (when you were three streets away, on the bus, at home or whatever) and whilst a call to the police after a delay may not be as good as an immediate one, it is still better than nothing.

Yeah, I was having my hair cut in the barber's just down from there a couple of days back and they reckon it was firebombed - no idea who'd want to do it though!

Hello all, I've just caught up with this thread.
The lady in the laundry told me she was in the shop at the time when someone throw in a petrol bomb. She told me the whole place went up very quickly and they (there were 4 in the shop) were lucky to get out alive.
that is completely out of order.
they were always cool whenever i went in.
but petrol bombs?!

Hey did anyone see this? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4953276.stm)
I wonder if it's connected?

Me too. Saw it on the front page of some paper or other and the first thing that popped into my head was the b.water lane incident :(
Hang on, those were separate incidents?
wtf?
I wonder if it was the same person...
Yet another one in Portland Road, S. Norwood.
On here (the direct link to the story is too long to paste).

Three firebomb attacks on small South London shops in as many weeks is very odd. :(

That does seem very unlikely... I just don't understand why they're targeting little shops (whether linked or not)? Well perhaps I do but it doesn't seem like a feasible reason..

Bearing in mind how rare petrol bombings really are. And bearing in mind that the majority of the few there are take place at night and these were all whilst the shops were open, I'd be very, very much expecting to find a link. Don't think there has been enough publicity or for the nature of the incidents to be such that copycat attacks are happening.
My money would be on: some sort of dispute (if the shops are connected (or were believed to be) connected in some way) or mentally ill suspect ("God told me to burn the off-licences" or some such explanation).
VERY concerning whatever the reason.

Oh well I'm glad you posted. I wasn't sure if it seemed like there might be a link or not... I'm glad that it doesn't appear "normal" to you either!!
I went into News at 9 again today and they're up and running again (in fact they were a few days later) - we had a bit of a chat and a laugh, but I'm so glad they all came out of it ok... it's so horrible that that poor man at Oval died... :( I really hope they catch whoever's doing this.

Judging by the e-fit picture issued by the police I would have thought anyone looking that distinctive would not take long to catch.

Where's that? And is it one e-fit for all 3 (or 2) of the crimes or just for one??

Well whatever they describe him as, let's hope they catch him before he does it again.

Christ. Don't think I ever went in (or maybe once or twice) but that's just behind where I lived for two and a half years. I shopped in several other places on that parade.
