Planning a (hopefully) non-blokey stag weekend in Cologne - any one got any recommendations for places to see/eat/drink/dance?
Eat: Best place I went into was a Brazilian Cafe on Wolfstrasse - I'm going back 5 years but theres quite a hefty Brazilian population in that area so I'm sure there'll be more. Theres also more italian restaurants than you can shake a stick at
See: The big catherdral in the square's pretty inpressive. You're also not far from the Rhine, if an afternoon sat on a boat supping lager and watching the world, and a disproportionate number of castles on top of hills overelooking the river, go by
Drink: Theres loadsa breweries. Kolsch is probably the best known local one, and seemed to be the choice of the majority of the locals. I'm not really a beer aficonado, but it tasted Ok to me.
Dance: Head for Zulpichestrasse. Most of the bars and clubs are concentrated there. Trance and techno seem to be the favoured sounds (again I'm relying on 5 yr old memories so I'm hoping things have changed a bit!). Everything you want for s stag night should be there easy enuff.
Oh god, I love cologne
Check out the cathedral at night, beautiful. You can climb to the top of it in the day too. You can buy big kegs of Frueh Koelsch from a place called the koelner hoffbrau brauhaus really cheaply, and it's really nice. Ask for directions from the cathedral. Try drink each of the different kinds of Koelsch if you can. Just wander round till you see a sign for a new variety. It's a big fucking challenge. Make sure not to ask for stuff like Stella, Boennsch, pilsner etc though. The people in there are proud of their beer and asking for something else is pretty odd.
It's a fucking lovely place, you'll have an ace time.
