Fri 20 Jan – Flowstate
Crossing oceans from Bondi to Brixton, Orlando Savage and Gareth Livingston have traded the sun and the surf of Sydney for London’s music scene. The two bring with them FlowState, a project which over the last two years has seen them develop a solid repertoire, launch their self-titled EP and release a video clip for the politically charged track, Systems. The FlowState sound sits somewhere between the electric and acoustic, a mix of soul with hip hop beats, samples, jazz and other urban-edged musics with their sights centred around harmony, both melodic and social.
8pm – 1am FREE

Sat 21 Jan – Chilli Fried South feat MR GEE live
The Chilli Fried Empire is expanding. Having recently turned one year old with a 12 month run at the Darbucka Bar in Clerkenwell, DJ and writer Jamie Renton has now established his night as one of the most popular monthly residencies at the Ritzy Café. As with the ongoing original Chilli Fried night at Darbucka, Chilli Fried South offers great music from around the world with the warmest of vibes. Opening and closing proceedings our host spins global beats and roots rhythms interspersed with a live set by a guest band (in the past this has been a 7 piece South African accapella band, a North African trio and an Armenian duduk player as featured in the Gladiator soundtrack…).
Tonight’s special guest is Mr Gee: presenter of BBC Radio Four’s Bespoken Word, host of the long running Brixtongue session and a poet of wit and intelligence, Gee will be performing poems from his CD Poetry in the Key of Gee (Dapper Records). DJ Ilka finishes off proceedings with a late night afro-hip-hop set.
8pm - 1am FREE

Sun 22 Jan – Tsivi Sharett
Since the TS Ensemble’s first performance together in 1998 in a tango club in West London they have established themselves as a jazz-based improvisatory collective, whose fusion of musical cultures under the inspired direction of Tsivi Sharett is noted for its rare and satisfying richness. Their recent CD Open Toes and Everything was met with critical acclaim by the likes of Straight No Chaser who had this advice for their readers:
“This is such a beautiful record, it seems amazing that it was never been picked up by a major record label. Tsivi originally comes from Israel, but now lives and works in London, where she produced and distributed this CD. From the sparse liner notes, she is credited with all compositions except one, a lovely reworking of Bach’s ‘prelude in A minor’. Throughout the album, her elegant piano playing is supported by a fine ensemble of musicians. Tsivi’s arrangements have just enough of a twist to make them interesting without sounding cliched. She allows herself a gentle look to her homeland on ‘oriental’, with a luscious duo between bass and percussion. Don’t let talent such as this go unheard, rush to your record store and demand a copy today.”
