I looked at Gaijin Girl's thread from about a year ago, and it seems the one on Herne Hill Rd is good, and was taking patients then.
Any other recommendations? I live at the Brixton end of Coldharbour Lane.
Haven't been to a Doctors in years, are they as bad as everyone makes out? Need to get some shakes and a weird back lump looked at.
Cheers!

There's a big practice on Brixton Hill (Brixton Hill Group Practice I think)
what type of shakes?

Dunno, mainly in left arm.. it's just not very stable, it shakes loads when I lift it over elbow height. Can't drink with left arm. Thought it was just a symptom of binge drinking, but it's not.
I've been with the Brixton Hill practise for three years. they're very good. never had any reason to complain!

I've been with them for over 20 years. Just seems to keep getting busier and busier though.
You have to book an appointment two weeks before becoming ill in case you die :o

I've also been with them since I came here in 1984, and my experince is the same. They're v. good, and the modernised surgery is attractive. Waiting periods vary - soemtimes long, sometimes not
yeah they're always very very busy. but at least they're good!

Haven't been there for well over a year, but nice to know that they now have a weekly "wart clinic" on top of everything else :D

They're only ever open 9-6, so I'm going to have to take time off to register, and then time off for the appointment so it's a no go really.. the shaky lumps will just have to wait. That's the herne hill one.
Brixton Hill is outside my catchment.

Yep, and as that hugely annoying LED message board over the reception desk keeps telling us :) , their books are open!

Try the loughborough junction quacks, a few people recomended it on my spewing blood thread. Chris i hate to say be a hyprocrite cos i hate docs as much as the next person but those shakes could be something really serious so if you have to take time off thats just something you have to do. Your work can moan all they like you need to see a doc.
edited cos its already been aswered

Can't remember where you live now Chris, but mine is off Acre Lane.. the Hetherington Road practice and I think they're great! My doctor, Dr Miskin is just brilliant!

Looks that way, seems stupid in this day and age not to have one single doctors that isn't open late one evening in the whole of Brixton!
A paranoid hack writes...
Libel is something that demeans someone in their profession or livelihood, or might cause someone to shun you in the street, so that might well work for the post in question IMHO.
Plus any other female receptionist there could sue too because they could say they were all demeaned.
Slagging of doctor's practices is an awful idea from the libel point of view. They have a lot of money and take their reputations very seriously.
So the thread itself is asking for trouble.

...but doctors receptionists are famed for their hostility and frostiness. I mean, isn't it their job to keep as many people away from under the busy doctors' feet as possible?

OK I'll delete the stuff that's made our resident paranoid hack worry about lawyers from the medical defence union et al rub their hands with glee, ask editor to put a list of doctors surgeries in Brixton on the main site and start a thread about unidentifiable doctors receptionists from hell in knobbing and sobbing...I hope that's a good solution.
I live round the corner from the LJ doctors and when I tried to register a few months ago, they said there books were closed.
I'm with the Herne Hill practise on/near Kestral Avenue, and they've always been really good. I've literally just got myself an appt about 10 mins ago for a 5.40pm slot (even though I've been told i've been taken off their books by the health authority  )

When in Brixton I was at Brixton Hill and very well looked after by Dr Stannard.

Iam am with Herne Hill as well and they have got much better with appointments over the last 6 months. They will try to get you to come in the middle of the day but always seem to find a same day 6pm appointment when i explain that I am not in Brixton during the day as I don't work in the area

Believe me, there are very good reasons why they would not want to undergo an investigation for the sake of a court case and they wouldn't spend the money anyway.
But hey, you are a much more important hack than I am. Have you taken over from laptop as resident lawyer?

Oh yeah, I forgot. The editor is going to put a list of Brixton doctors on the Brixton bit of the main site, as this type of thread comes up quite often so can people please PM him with the address and phone numbers of local surgeries (subject line Brixton doctors). Thanks.

The bit in bold..........You are about to overstep the mark.
(I am concerned by your motivation for doing this.)
Can we have this thread binned please ?

Sorry I disagree there. The surgery is not named and is unidentifiable....and no, I'm not binning the thread at the moment. I've deleted anything remotely worrying.

What IS your problem?
Do you have some kind of personal investment in making sure practice receptionists suffer no criticism?

And it started off so innocuously..
Brighton Terrace is great in my experience - really nice and helpful.
Though I'd like to point out on a point of principle that I think a pretty high proportion of doctors are patronisng bastards who treat patients like cattle.

Perhaps you did not read the problematic comments
made by the Username - Intostella.
Those comments have quite rightly been deleted.
I have no problem with Users criticising practice receptionists and Mrs Magpie has started a thread for that very purpose in another forum.

She was right though. That receptionist has been foul to me as well. It was the possible legal stuff. I've seen IntoStella very ill and being rebuffed by that complete cow of a jobsworth. It isn't the job of a receptionist to diagnose your condition nor to decide whether you are deserving enough for an appointment.

Real men don't need doctors.
There's no condition that can't be treated with a stiff drink and some manly grunting.

Surely it's the opposite if he's never needed a doctor in all that time - I've probably visited the doctor 4 or 5 times since I was a kid and I'm 32. The only time I'm ever ill is when I have a cold or flu and a doctor can't help you with those.

I don't think I've been to the doctor in 5 years or so either.
In any case, I think the only time a surgery's ever checked my blood pressure is in the induction to join a new practice. The other times you're quickly in, generally thrown a prescriptions for some pills, and out within 10 minutes.
And I quite like the surgery too, but I think folks going to a gym induction tend to get as much of a general health check as they're likely to get at the doctor's.

I guess. Lots of people would only bother a overworked doctor if they had something wrong with them - to be honest, I've never really thought about it. I've been tootling along thinking that you had to be ill to make an appointment, but I suppose that's not true. Are you allowed to book a 'check up' every now and again? What does that involve?

They take your blood pressure and tell you to stop drinking so much (that's what happened to me anyway).

I haven't been to the Doctors since a check up when I had ME, when he asked my how my liver was and if I'd not drunk a drop like he'd previously told me.. er, except he never said a thing about my liver and I was in my first year at uni so drank like a fish. turns out my liver fucntion was down to 50%.. ok, common sense on my part wouldn't have hurt, but how could you neglect to tell someone that?!?!?! ME or no ME I never went back.
Gf is stressing about my shakes though, so maybe I should go.

You should go because you need to but if your GF is worried too then there are two of you worried sick. Please go Chris it could be a trapped nerve and something easily.
