Hi,

I've been thinking about doing some voluntary work locally, preferably one night a week/fortnight at first. Something like helping out at a homeless shelter would be good.

Would like to do this in the Brixton area as it's where I live and I'd like to put something back into the community.

Would any of you guys either know how I could find out how to get into this, or have any ideas for similar voluntary work schemes in the area.

No….it's not a new years resolution in case you were wondering.

Thanks in advance, Bazza

A bit different, not sure if it is what you are looking for - the Prince's Trust (http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/). You can get involved to mentor the small (i.e. tiny) businesses they support. I am involved with one of their businesses in Brixton, a social enterprise - I guess they may have other similar businesses in or around Brixton.

Yeah, thank you guys for all your responses. A lot of useful stuff.

Cheers, Hollis, that website had some great stuff. So far, I'm inclined to do some witness/victim assistance.

Will keep you posted.

Check out the Lambeth Voluntary Action Council website: http://www.lambethvac.org.uk/s-LVAC_Homepage

They have a very large database of voluntary and community groups in the area.
